Sometimes, this rumor of this alleged tape of Michelle Obama denouncing “whitey” sounds like something out of a clichéd political thriller novel. Actually, it sounds exactly like something out of a clichéd political thriller novel. Specifically, Stephen Frey’s The Power Broker, published in 2006 by Ballantine Books. A major plot line of the novel is the presidential campaign of Democrat Jesse Wood, aiming to be the country’s first African American president — “Wood was handsome, smart, charismatic, and being mentioned increasingly often in the press as someone who could unite a twenty-first century America growing more, not less, racially and...

Obama denies a rumor and questions the question Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday batted down rumors circulating on the Internet and mentioned on some cable news shows of the existence of a video of his wife using a derogatory term for white people, and criticized a reporter for asking him about the rumor, which has not a shred of evidence to support it. “We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it,” Obama said to the McClatchy...

In a case that proves that size really does matter, 3M has agreed to pay almost $700,000 to settle a Fresno County case that alleged the company sold undersized adhesive tapes. Fresno County prosecutors made their case stick by showing that 3M's Scotch and Tartan brand adhesive and packaging tapes were 6 percent narrower than their packaging said. "They knew what the width was, and they seemed to want to exaggerate it," said Alan Yengoyan, the Fresno County deputy district attorney who prosecuted the case...

House Intelligence Committee chairman Silvestre Reyes told ABC News today that he will ignore the Bush administration's request to drop its investigation of why CIA interrogation tapes were destroyed. "This is an administration that frankly does not have a good track record of policing itself," Reyes said. "We intend to go forward and issue subpoenas next week because we are a whole equal branch of government."

Scientists have designed an extremely sticky patterned adhesive, which is twice as sticky as flat tapes used for similar purposes. The new glue-free adhesive can also stick to dusty surfaces better, can be washed with soap and water, and can be reused multiple times. The researchers call the material “insect tape” because its adhesive properties come from a pattern of microstructures that are inspired by insect feet. The team, composed of evolutionary biomaterials researchers from the Max Planck Institute (MPI) in Stuttgart, Germany, and biologically inspired robotics researchers from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, US, analyzed more than 300 different...

The rambling one-hour tape threatens U.S. and ally interests around the world: "Those, uh, big buildings full of guys in suits, uh, we will blow them up completely. Embassies. We will blow up your embassies like crazy," said Gadahn, speaking through what appears to be a thatch of...

WASHINGTON - Rep. Jim McDermott said Friday he will ask the Supreme Court to decide whether he had a right to disclose contents of an illegally taped telephone call involving House Republican leaders a decade ago. A federal appeals court ruled in May that the Washington state Democrat should not have given reporters access to the tape-recorded telephone call of Republican leaders discussing the House ethics case against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga. McDermott's offense was especially egregious since he was a senior member of the House ethics committee, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of...

UNION -- A Monroe County elementary art teacher was suspended without pay for putting masking tape under the noses of about 25 third-graders in a joking attempt to quiet them, Superintendent Lyn Guy said. The Monroe County Board of Education voted Monday night to uphold the 10-day suspension of Donna Spangler, an art teacher at Peterstown Elementary School. Spangler's suspension ended Monday and she has since returned to work. "I didn't think it was very funny,'' Guy said Tuesday. "It wasn't right and she (Spangler) made a huge mistake in judgment and she has paid for it.'' Guy said the...

A surveillance camera caught a New York mugger beating a 101-year-old woman for the mere $33 she was carrying; shortly later, the police say, the same man mugged an 85-year-old woman. He beat her, too, stealing $32. "There has to be a special rung of hell for him," said a police official familiar with the incidents, which occurred last weekend. The older woman suffered a fractured cheekbone that doctors at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens could not repair because of her age. The 85-year-old suffered facial cuts and bruises.

CAIRO, Egypt - An American thought to be an al-Qaida activist appeared in a videotape with the terror group's deputy leader Saturday and called on his countrymen to convert to Islam and for U.S. soldiers to switch sides in the Iraq and Afghan wars. The 48-minute video, posted on an Islamic militant Web site, had footage of al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, and of Adam Yehiye Gadahn, a 28-year-old American who the FBI believes attended al-Qaida training camps in Pakistan and served as an al-Qaida translator. It was the second time Gadahn appeared in the same video with al-Zawahri....

Today's announcement by Al Qaeda second in command Dr. Ayman al Zawahiri that the multinational terror conglomerate has been joined by a portion of the Egyptian group "Jamaa Islamiya" is both puzzling and not surprising. It is unclear how large the faction is from Jamaa Islamiya that is aligning itself with Al Qaeda. Neither Zawahiri nor Mohamed Khalil Hukayma, who made the announcement for Jamaa Islamiya, was clear about how many members were involved in the merger, although Zawahiri did refer to of the large crowd and the majority of Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya, in the following statement: Abu Jihad Al-Masri, Mohamed...

JPFO began our campaign to "Boot the BATFE" (www.jpfo.org/bootbatfe.htm) in January of 2005. The instigating factor was a tape we received, a tape that indisputably showed BATFE agents attempting to frame an innocent gun owner, John Glover. That tape -- which we promptly copied and began distributing as _BATFE Fails the Test_ (www.jpfo.org/batfevideo.htm) -- was something the BATFE _never_ intended you to see. Thanks to it, the charges against Glover were dropped and all but one of his firearms returned. Eighteen months later, we offer you something else the BATFE was hoping wouldn't get out: John Glover's story, straight from...

Jefferson can find hope in past caseFriday, May 26, 2006 Lolis Eric Elie "There are two sides to every story," Congressman William Jefferson said Monday. I doubt anybody would disagree with that general sentiment. But unanimity may have been lost when the New Orleans Democrat tried to apply that platitude to the specifics of his own situation. We've heard only the FBI's side, but it's pretty compelling. The feds say they have a videotape showing Jefferson accepting a $100,000 bribe. They also say most of that money ended up in Jefferson's freezer. Two of Jefferson's former associates have pleaded guilty....

It says the eight-term congressman received the cash from an FBI informant, who approached the bureau in March 2005 with her suspicion that Mr Jefferson and two business associates conspired to defraud her out of $US3.5 million. Mr Jefferson, a senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, has been under...

Bin Laden justifies attacks on westerners in new tape By Anton La Guardia, Diplomatic Editor (Filed: 24/04/2006) Osama Bin Laden accused the West yesterday of waging a war against Islam and justified attacks on western civilians because they had elected governments that are fighting in Muslim countries. Bin Laden's threats came as John Reid, the Defence Secretary, confirmed that the 3,500 British troops in Afghanistan would launch pre-emptive strikes against Taliban and al-Qa'eda forces if it was necessary to safeguard soldiers' lives. Bin Laden: new threats In a latest tape recording attributed to the al-Qa'eda leader, who is believed to...

A Duke professor says he is doubtful about Thursday's audiotape from Osama bin Laden. Bruce Lawrence has just published "Messages to the World: The Statements of Osama Bin Laden," a book translating bin Laden's writing. He is skeptical of Thursday's message. "It was like a voice from the grave," Lawrence said. He thinks bin Laden is dead and has doubts about the tape. Lawrence recently analyzed more than 20 complete speeches and interviews of the al Qaida leader for his book. He says the new message is missing several key elements. "There's nothing in this from the Koran. He's, by...

Is Osama bin Laden looking for contracts for his family's construction firm? -- snip -- The second reason for issuing the tape is to prepare Arab opinion for the turning of the tide against the Jihadists in Iraq. With the Arab Sunnis now part of the democratic process in Iraq, the foreign Arab Jihadists fear that they will soon face the ire of the Iraqis rather than occasional operations launched by the U.S. forces. And if things come to that, the Jihadists know that the Iraqis will not be fighting them in accordance with the Marquis of Queensbury rules.

August 4, 2005. New tape from Ayman Zawahiri released on Al Jazeera this morning In the tape, played on Al Jazeera TV at approximately 8 am ET this morning, Zawahiri mentions the London bombings, and claims that more are on the way. He claims that the destruction of London will be felt again in London, and will also be felt in the United States. Some preliminary observations: 1. The black turban worries me. Zawahiri traditionally is shown wearing a white turban. 2. The position of the gunsight is proximate to the body, rather than away from the body. That...

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a phone call between President Nixon and the man who would become "Deep Throat," the president instructed FBI official Mark Felt to aggressively pursue the case against the gunman who shot George Wallace. There must be no public suspicion of a cover-up, Nixon said, in the wounding of the Alabama governor who was then running for president. The May 15, 1972, phone call is believed to be the only tape-recorded conversation between Nixon and Felt, the No. 2 FBI official. Nixon expressed satisfaction when Felt told him the suspect had some cuts and bruises. "I hope...

HILL AIDE'S FUND TRIAL DEBUGGED By KENNETH LOVETT May 18, 2005 -- LOS ANGELES — In a courthouse shocker, Sen. Ted Kennedy's brother-in-law won't be asked about a conversation he secretly recorded for the FBI when he testifies today against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's former chief fund-raiser, a prosecutor revealed yesterday. "The government does not intend to introduce the tape or elicit any testimony about that conversation," federal prosecutor Peter Zeidenberg told a judge before the trial of ex-Clinton fund-raiser David Rosen resumed yesterday after a four-day break. While Zeidenberg did not mention Kennedy's brother-in-law, Ray Reggie, by name, he...

NEW YORK (AP) - Private conversations with George Bush secretly taped by an old friend before he was elected president foreshadow some of his political strategies and appear to reveal that he acknowledged using marijuana, The New York Times reported Saturday. The conversations were recorded by Doug Wead, a former aide to George W. Bush's father, beginning in 1998, when Bush was weighing a presidential bid, until just before the Republican National Convention in 2000, the Times said in a story posted on its Web site. The tapes show Bush crafting a strategy for navigating the tricky political waters between...

US Democratic Senator John Kerry says a video message from Osama Bin Laden sealed his defeat in a presidential race dominated by the 9/11 attacks. Mr Kerry told NBC TV his opinion poll lead over President George W Bush fell away after the tape was broadcast. A dialogue between two important members of the FARC (Colombian revolutionary Armed Forces), appears to be among the evidence submitted by the Colombian authorities to the Venezuelan Government according to Colombia’s Radio Caracol. While soldiers at the front prosecute the war on terrorism in Fallujah, those of us in the comfort of our U.S. offices and homes would do well to take a second look at that pre-election Osama bin Laden tape. Its election value now gone and never realized, the tape remains important for what it says about counterterrorism strategy. Bin Laden was aiming at a broader audience than American voters. He was addressing the wider Muslim world. Those who shape U.S. foreign policy should note how several of the points he's making with Muslims give insight into how the U.S. must...

Flattering though it is to have the eyes of the world on America and our election, let's take a quick postvote moment to recall that America, despite its might, is not the global alpha and omega; it is neither the source of all the world's problems nor the solution. By the same token, while last week's videotape from that tall thin Swedophile purporting to be bin Laden was addressed to the American people in particular, the intended audience was clearly much larger. The world was invited to witness bin Laden swelling in self-importance to near-Michael Moore proportions as he came...

I just caught a report on Fox concerning some further analisys and translation of OBL's tape just released. The news report suggested that OBL may have "guaranteed security" to individual states who support the election of Kerry - which may be the same of threatening states that support the re-election of Bush. If this is actually a correct interpretation, we as a nation must really come to grips with the threat we're really facing.

Osama's Message - Analysis and Implications by Dan Darling at November 1, 2004 09:08 AM Osama bin Laden's recent audiotape, combined with the recent message from Adam Gadahn/Azzam al-Ameriki, have left more than a few Americans and intelligence and law enforcement analysts puzzled as to what his apparent purpose is and why he would break cover this late in the game. I'm going to be using the MEMRI, BBC, and al-Jazeera transcripts...

On the surface, the re-appearance of an Osama bin Laden is not great news for the Bush administration. But Republican spinners have found a message that works, and they're spreading the word. Bin Laden delivered a message for the American people on Friday, just four days before the U.S. election. It was his first videotape appearance since Dec. 2001, proof that he is still alive and remains a threat. "Osama helps to focus on security. I think George Bush is going to pull it out," said former Bush speechwriter David Frum on CTV's Question Period. In the eyes of American...

Apparently, Al Jazeera edited the 18-minute Bin Laden tape down to 6 minutes, leaving out parts that could help President Bush: Officials said that in the 18-minute long tape — of which only six minutes were aired on the al-Jazeera Arab television network in the Middle East on Friday — bin Laden bemoans the recent democratic elections in Afghanistan and the lack of violence involved with it. On the tape, bin Laden also says his terror organization has been hurt by the U.S. military’s unrelenting manhunt for him and his cohorts on the Afghan-Pakistani border. A portion of the left-out...

There is only one reaction to this Bin Laden tape. It is not an endorsement of Kerry. It will not scare Americans into voting for Bush or Kerry. It is sign of weakness. The Media is going to try to trick us in these next few days.
