U.S. Team Took 200 Tons of Iraqi Explosives
Fox News ^ | October 29, 2004

WASHINGTON — A U.S. soldier is coming forward Friday to say a team from the 3rd Infantry Division took about 200 tons of explosives from an Iraqi military facility soon after Saddam Hussein's regime fell last year.

The soldier will appear before reporters at noon, EDT. The briefing will be shown on the FOX News Channel.

The announcement is the latest twist in the mystery over what happened to 377 tons of explosives that the International Atomic Energy Agency said had disappeared.

The soldier's story comes as new videotape has surfaced that supports the contention that tons of the explosives were still at the base following Saddam's fall on April 9, 2003. U.S. officials had said they suspected the explosives were taken before U.S.-led forces took Baghdad.

Videotape shot by a Minnesota television crew traveling with U.S. troops in Iraq when they first opened the bunkers at the Al-Qaqaa (search) munitions base nine days after the fall of Saddam Hussein shows what appeared to be high explosives still in barrels and bearing the markings of the International Atomic Energy Agency (search).

387 tons? Did he personally measure that? And are there certified witnesses? And were there pictures? And who ordered him to do this? And why didn't he notify the UN of such an order? And why didn't he personally brief Rumsfeld about this event? And why didn't Vikings win any big games last season? And will the Yankees come back? And did Katie Couric actually get a boob job done? And why did Columbus actually leave his crew there upon the island when he sailed back? And why isn't CNN in the top of the charts? Why Why Why

These are important questions...that I sit around and think about. It usually takes 3 beers...but today....it took only 1. My life is a woeful event....I need a real life...you know.

"he said he had accounted for it though the records were classified."

makes sense to me

I have to agree with you.

Till they are certain of "what they have learned" they shouldn't be saying anything but we're looking into it or something like that.

The press really need a manners lesson. They were as bad as I've ever seen them.

The MSM wing of the Democratic Party is desperate to deny the truth of the Major's report. The "When did you stop beating your wife" questions reinforced my belief that most MSM types are openly partisan.

I'm confused too. Why is this whole story relevant to who should be President? Basically Kerry and others are trying to say they are blaming the President. But they are really saying the troops didn't do their job. Shouldn't Americans be upset about that?

Simple question should be posed to Kerry and the RATS:

Who sir do you believe is telling the truth? Our men and women of the military or an Egyptian administrator appointed by the UN to run IAEA?

The answer will come out like this:

Well, it is a little bit more complicated than that....

"And why did Columbus actually leave his crew there upon the island when he sailed back? "

I thought one of the ships was destroyed on the rocks, so he did not have enough transport.

;)

I get the impression the Major was not sure exactly
what munitions he removed. Wouldn't he need to know
what type of handling was required for a certain type
of explosives.

I don't hear any big news here.

It doesn't make any difference what is said. The IAEA said there were 280 tons! The Media and the Kerry campaign want a video of the specific destruction/theft of these explosives, anything less is not enough. They will twist this and say there were no pictures, a member of the media didn't see the destruction, so the IAEA is correct. Same old song.

Actually...there was more than enough room on the two other vessels for the crew of the 3rd boat. He left them to help ensure that the Queen would allow him a second trip (she wouldn't dare leave poor Spaniards behind on a desert island).

Kerry is toast.

This news conference proves:
1. Kerry is a Political Opportunist.
2. Kerry jumped to conclusions without the facts.
3. Kerry assumed that the UN memo and report from IIG (Iraqi Interim Government) trumped our military.
4. Kerry falsely accused the President of not having a plan to deal with these weapons caches.
5. Kerry testimony to America today is reminiscent of his blame the troops testimony of 1971.
6. Kerry lacks the understanding of 21st century warfighting.
7. Kerry has disqualified himself from serving as the Commandar in Chief.

Bush is rock solid in defending the country and Kerry/MSM need to shake voter faith in that truth. They're chipping away with the bogus issues of draft, explosives and Halliburton in a last ditch effort to peal voters away from Bush.

It's roll in the mud politics.

The Major said that the ammo in question is just 1000th of 1 percent of the munitions that they destroyed. So Whats the big deal?

Off topic a bit but I think our resident vets may enjoy it.

On Tuesday one of my friends fathers was admitted to the hospital due to an aneurysm in his lung. The doctors were trying to convince him to apply for his veterans benefits. Max (his name) refused.

He spent his time during the Korean war guarding American deserters in Alaska. He said that the benefits belong to the guys who fought in that war and had earned them.

Max is a proud man who feels that he was paid for his service and that serving was a privilege.

I wish Kerry would latch on to a SIGNIFICANT issue. This is NOT important and my frustration is in why this just can't be dismissed.
