Kerry: "Let's Walk in the Footsteps of the Lord"

DAYTON, Ohio, Oct 31 (AFP) - Democratic nominee John Kerry on Sunday pledged to heal America's "wounds" as he preached to African American worshippers in the crucial swing state of Ohio, two days before the toss-up US election.

Kerry, at the altar of the Shiloh Baptist church, tempered his raw meat political message with lessons from the Bible, to chide the social and economic policies of his opponent, President George W. Bush.

"As the scripture teaches us, those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength and they will soar on wings like eagles and they will run and not grow weary and they will walk and not grow faint," Kerry said whipping up cheers from the congregation.

"That's what we are going to do over these next two days and once we have done that job, for the next four years we are going to work out what we need to do to heal the wounds of this country, to be one America," Kerry said.

"We are going to get this done, let's make it happen, let's walk in the footsteps of the Lord."

Kerry implied that Bush's policies on health care, unemployment benefits and overtime pay, did not square with the president's overt Christianity and preference for faith-based social services.

Before arriving at the Baptist church, Kerry took communion at a Dayton Roman Catholic church.

While most worshippers applauded him, one unidentified woman stood up, collected her husband and walked out, muttering, "I won't spend a moment with that man," testimony to the divisions cleaving America before the election.

Kerry fired up his campaign Sunday for a last 48-hour dash through the battlegrounds of his bitter, polarising wrestle for the White House with Bush.

His appearance in church fit with his strategy of pressing for a high turnout among African Americans who vote overwhelmingly Democratic, but according to some evidence have yet to be inspired by his campaign.

Kerry's schedule next took him to New Hampshire, another battleground state, before he was due to make his last stand in Florida, which as in the besmirched 2000 election, could dictate the destiny of the White House.

Kerry was to stump on election eve Monday in Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

You know, this is actually scary. For Kerry that is. Using the Lord for personal gain and to further an agenda that is so ungodly. I think it has just now sunk in to my mind how dangerous he is. This is so satan'esque.

... let's walk in the footsteps of the Lord."

He's stepped in it now.

You don't invoke "the Lord" for purely politically purposes. You better be meaning it in your heart and we know that's impossible as sKerry has no heart.

and I still don't understand how he's allowed to stump from church pulpits - and have campaign signs in church, etc

If our side were to do that ONE time, there'd be H - E - double L to pay...and those churches would loose their tax-x ...

They get away with it because they know "W" wont act against the churches...but if the shoe were on the other foot...

Once again the black churchgoing community is being played for stooges. Regardless of what their political leadership says, African-Americans are irrelevant in political elections because their vote is taken for granted by both sides. Thus Democrats only have to show up for the occasional photo op in some Church, while Republicans don't bother to spend a dime influencing the community to evaluate what a vote for Democrats really means.
Certainly, the corrupt black leaders from Oakland through East Saint Louis to Harlem will ensure that ballot-box stuffing occurs, but the upshot of shuch loyalty to the cause offers few tangible results. After all, how many black Americans did Bill Clinton invite to the Lincoln bedroom?

How dare he quote Scripture as a snake-oil salesman trading his goods for votes!! If I am this angry.. how much MORE is the Lord. Truly, I think it grieves His heart. I am drawn to this Scripture..." To one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit...speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God." 2Cor.2:16-18 Let God arise..and HIS enemies be scattered!!!

Why does Kerry always do that "hands in prayer" thing? It seems that I see a picture of him almost every day with his hands in that position.

I agree, kerry talks about Bush and his religion as a bad thing then. Dems want religion out of govenment and schools, but they yet they campaign in church. Yea, where is the IRS? I am sick of this double standard.

I am getting sick and tired of these Rats using church's for their political rally's. Where is the ACLU, IRS, and every otherleft wing organization to complain about them. I wrote my reps about this for all the good it will do.

No, actually I would suspect it's testimony to the fact that she recognizes his kind of faith for what it is.

"...let's walk in the footsteps of the Lord."

Seems reasonable to me - for one that obviously doesn't walk WITH Christ. Besides, Christ actually commanded this by saying "Get thee behind me, Satan!"

Just how will Kerry be finding the Lord's footsteps?

The word "Lord" coming out of Kerry's mouth is very unnatural.

He walks in the footsteps of Satan

My thoughts exactly. The Lord I follow doesn't lead in the direction Kerry has been going. He needs to check those footsteps again.
