Update:
Under the current rules, the way to go about preventing Specter from becoming the Chairman of the Judiciary is to have someone CHALLENGE Specter for the Chair. Hatch is term-limited and can't continue. Grassley is very unlikely to give up his Chair of Finance Committee. Senator Jon Kyl is next in line and seems to be the best candidate. This is where we need to concentrate on, getting someone to CHALLENGE Specter for the Chairman's role. We need to contact Senator Kyl to see his willingness and also contact other Senators to support Kyl in making a CHALLENGE.
Focus: Drafting Jon Kyl as Chairman - E-mail, fax, phone all GOP Senators!
I believe all this is decided when the GOP caucuses. But we still lack information on this. I have conflicting reports, they caucus next week, they caucus in the next two weeks. I believe the Senate is in recess until November 16th, but it is possible the GOP caucus in before then. We need understand the process more if we want to impact it.
Keep up the Good Work: We are being heard!
Watch out for Specter: Specter knows he is in trouble. Specter is going on the talk show circuit to make his case. Don't buy into his BS. Specter will point out that he has supported Bush's nominees. He voted for Thomas. He voted for Scalia. Of course, so did Senator Kerry and 96 other Senators. Like Senator Kerry, Specter wants to maintain the liberal balance on the court. They will only support a conservative judge if it does not threaten Roe v. Wade. Senator Specter says he doesn't have a litmus test. But just ask Specter what he would do if the court were divided 5-4 on abortion. I am 100% convinced Specter would pull out any and all stops to make sure a pro-abortion judge is appointed. The more I learn about Specter, the more I see that protecting Roe v. Wade is his number one priority. This is why Specter will do and say ANYTHING to get the Judiciary Chairman assignment. Specter is a snake, when he goes to pat you on the back watch out for the knife in his hand. Specter flat out hates social conservatives and 'strict constructionist' judges. Specter is a 'living document' guy.
Our Resolve:
Whereas, liberal Senator Arlen Specter is in line to be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
Whereas, liberal Arlen Specter has a stated litmus test against pro-abortion judges.
Whereas, liberal Arlen Specter has stated he will fight against conservative judges
Whereas, in the past liberal Arlen Specter has helped defeat great judges like Robert Bork,
Whereas, the Democrats have loaded the Judiciary Committee with extreme liberals such as Kennedy, Feinstein, Leahy, and Schumer.
Whereas, liberal Arlen Specter is in a position to turn our huge and historic election victory into a defeat by killing the nomination of all decent judges,
Be it resolved, that we will do whatever it takes to get liberal Arlen Specter off the Judiciary Committee

Petition to remove Specter as head of Judiciary...please sign.
Too bad you can't get some female to claim abuse.
Thanks, I will sign it. I have already included it in the Petititions on the Web section of this post. If there is some information I need to add, please comment.
Yeah that would be good. Tragically though, the biggest problem is most of the victims of Specter just get flushed down the drain.
I hope everyone who hasn't done so already will make those calls and blast those emails to Bill Frist today?
Doc Savage has signed the petition, faxed the entire Senate, sent a letter to Santorum warning him that I will work to defeat him in the next election if he continues to back Specter, and sent a note to Specter decrying his warning to President Bush! Let's Roll!
Forgot, also sent e-mail to Frist! And just for good measure, I did NOT vote for Specter! Remember Holly Maddux and remember how this sleaze Specter allowed her killer, Ira Einhorn, to flee the country!!!!!

I'm posting this on all the links about Specter it explains the power of a chairman and the ruthless man himself.
For heavens sake go to Concerned Women of America and listen to this clip about Specter and an explanation of the power that a chairman has over these nominations. If this man gets chairmanship for the next six years we will not get any decent judges. It's now or never. When you get there click on the new link about Judical roadblocks . Give it time to play. It's stunning.
Please go and read Hugh Hewitts Friday night post on this topic. He's a lawyer, worked in the White House and is the smartest political observer around. He's saying the composition of the court 12-7 or 11-8 is more important than the Chairman. He says that to set aside the ascendency rules for political expediency will do more harm than good. Read his post and reconsider. I was as fired up as anyone and did call several Senator's offices, but I'm pretty sure we've made our point by now with Speckieboy and it may be time to change the arguement to composition of the committee rather than the chair. hughhewitt.com is the address.

I agree. I can support Guiliani's and Arnold's who hold different views. But with Specter it is a crusade to get liberal judges to the bench. It is the very essence for his existence in the Senate. I can not support a guy who I know for a fact main goal is to stab me in the back. If you don't understand that, i apologize.
Hewitt's problem is he does not realize Specter's resolve to beat conservative judges. It is Specter's purpose in life.
Great info! Now, let's get busy!
Great info! Now, let's get busy!
I don't know why this didn't come through earlier.
Hewitt is wrong, and the effort to derail Specter is misguided. More important that either Specter or the composition of the committee is forcing a rule change in the Senate to eliminate the use of the filibuster in the case of nomination confirmations.
If THAT isn't done, NOTHING CHANGES, no matter whether Specter is in charge of the committee or not.
