WHEN Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician, collected his post from the letterbox on Wednesday he got an unpleasant surprise. Among the bills and junk mail was a letter addressing him as ugly dog. It told him he would soon be beheaded.
It was an unnerving way to start the day. Only 24 hours earlier Theo van Gogh, the film maker who had often attacked radical Muslims, had been riding along on his bicycle when a Muslim fanatic first shot and then butchered him on a busy street with the nonchalance of an abattoir worker.

"and still he tried to chop the guy's head off".
A tip, my fellow american. In the Islamic texts the punishment for being an infidel is to have your heave cut off. Its very traditional ritual in islam.

If I were living in Dearborn, MI, I'd be very afraid. We have no business letting this death cult take hold in some of our cities. At the very least, I would make certain the ridiculous laws against the 2nd Amendment were abolished so I could defend my family.

"hair- raising screams will be squeezed from the lungs of the non-believers"This one statement tells the whole story and the reason for terrorism.

"If you encounter (in war) those who disbelieve, you may strike the necks. If you take them as captives you may set them free or ransom them, until the war ends. Had GOD willed, He could have granted you victory, without war. But He thus tests you by one another. As for those who get killed in the cause of GOD, He will never put their sacrifice to waste" sura 47:4

If something good is to come from horrific acts liek these, it's the increasing likelihood that GB will NOT join the EU..

a political row was brewing over why Mohammed, who was known to the intelligence services as an associate of Azzouz, had not been placed under closer surveillance. Had that been done, it is argued, van Gogh might still be alive. The Dutch need to accept they're at war and pass Patriot Act-style legislation.

I've been reading FR for a long time, but I still don't know what DU means. Can you clue me in?

Democratic Underground--sort of the anti-FR. They are all Kool Aid drinkers and unashamed leftists. They hate the USA.

Has anyone heard what the situation is like now in Belgium? Two years ago, I was in Brussels, and the Muslim population was not assimilated. I seem to recall some news stories of friction between the immigrants and the locals. I imagine my European friends are feeling a lot less smug now.

I don't remember hearing anything in the U.S. media that the killer tried to decapitate Van Gogh. It was simply reported that he was shot and stabbed. Slashing the throat is not "stabbing." The sadism of this murder is not being reported.

This has become a world war...will France and Germany and others wake up? OR will it take beheadings in their country to make them see the light?
To: jocon307
I think it is very improbable that any western European country would enact capital punishment for this kind of crime. They have bought into moral relativism so much that they no longer can envision a death sentence as being just in any circumstance. And, of course, they don't buy the straight deterrence argument--they didn't buy it for Pershing missiles, so why should they buy it as a way to prevent murder?

Britain is already a member of the EU. It simply has refused to surrender all of its sovereignty--hence it still has its own currency.

Methinks the Euroweenies are starting to realize what many, (but sadly not all) of us realized on Sept. 12, 2001.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

The jihadis remind me more and more of the white supremicist skin heads and their devotionton to their leaders and the violence and hatred they instill in young males. Not to mention their hatred of jews, homosexuals, and blacks. They do share a lot of loathsome, common traits.
