My kids think I am an idiot. That don't stop them from asking me for money though.
Sounds like my ex, the one who is now all alone and having a real hard time finding a decent man.
This has been going on for years. I'm only surprised that it took people this long to start complaining about it.
Many commercials today poke fun at males. I've noticed this for a while.
TV shows - especially sitcoms - have been portraying the father as a clueless dolt for a very long time. I wonder if this has anything to do with the large number of gay men writing and producing such tripe.
Also, the ad agencies write copy to target the demographic that makes the purchasing decision on the products they are selling. Ever wonder why beer and motor vehicle ads are the only ones aimed at men? Those are the only products that the "woman of the house" does NOT decide on, according to the people who study such things.
Look at those Vehix commercials, with the guy comparing cars using a posterboard and yarn... or the other Vehix comm where the guys on the phone looking for a Silver SUV, while the wifey cleverly surfs to Vehix.com
I just chalk it up to the fact that if they made the women the butt of the joke, a flock of feminist harriers would rain down upon them.
Has anyone seen a commercial for an insurance company (Progressive, I think)? A woman is spying on her spouse through a web cam (or such item). He is in a bar hitting on a lass. The commercial continues with the wife creating a cyber scissors (or similar item) and then placing them over his crotch. This is shown to the viewer at home. She then smiles when she clips away and he is seen in agony.
I assume the company got many complaints because in subsequent airings, the latter part of the commercial was edited.
My problem is that this spot goes out of its way to make the father look like an idiot and an unnecessary part of the family. There's enough of that kind of thinking out there already...it doesn't need to be reinforced by Madison Ave.
Been going on a long time....Marxists, femanazis, lesbians and sodomites who hate 'the man', the God intended... 'head of family' almost as much as they hate the America of our founding fathers...
"Macho" has been one of the left's curse words for many years...
I've seen one of these ads (not the one described) and I was amazed at how it was seen funny showing a seriously dysfunctional family.
The ad showed a Dad saying something like, "OK kids now we have phones that can let us stay in touch with each other!" The daughters stare in blank terror, and then hug their Mom when she says they can call their friends too... Father says "Group hug!" and the girls run off, leaving him awkward and alone. Very strange behaviour, actually, and not funny to my mind.
Weird advertising.
I have always tried hard to treat all women with respect, so seeing this kind of stuff coming at men, fathers in particular, is beginning to irk me too.

Typical liberal media only portraying DEMOCRAT fathers and then implying that all fathers are like them.
Most commercials use the White Male as the idiot because idiot commercials are funny but it would be racist to use a minority figure as an idiot.
I have noticed that this is a common theme in advertising. Fathers/Husbands being portrayed as the lovable dopes, wives/mothers save the day, or make things right, giving the man a "bad boy" look. Not sure if this is merely a reflection of the culture, where "boyish" men are pretty much the norm these days...
Is Verizon the phone company that shows the pathetic father who is excited that he's bought the new phone plan so his daughters can call him, and they just roll their eyes and walk off with their mother, leaving him standing there (to pay the bills for the phones, of course). I would never buy from a company that lets some fatherless, man-hating woman write ads like these showing such disrespect for fathers.
I dunno - I get the snickering when that sort of stuff comes on but when I tell them to fix their own damn computer it tends to stop...
Whenever I see that scorn coming into my life, I basically point out how much the scorner relies on me, and how rough they WILL have it if I decide I won't take it anymore.
It's demographics, that's all. In most households, women make most of the buying decisions, from groceries to clothing to what cell phone to buy. That's the reality, and most men are quite happy to have them do it.
So, the advertisers go for the female market. For some reason, they seem to think that women think their husbands and boyfriends are useful idiots, so that's why the ads portray them that way.
In markets where men make most buying decisions, like cars, and especially trucks, wide-screen TVs, and other high-end merchandise, you won't find this kind of ad.
I'm waiting for the Beano ad that has hubby tooting in bed then pulling the covers over his wife's head. She laughs, and says, "That trick won't work. I put Beano in your food."
Now, the question is: Do most women think their husbands are useful idiots? If so, then the ads are right on target.
