Bush monument set to be unveiled in Houston
HOUSTON - The unveiling ceremony for a monument to honor former President George Bush is planned for early December.
The George Bush Presidential Monument is located in a Houston park. It's a one-point-seven (m) million dollar project.
One of the project's organizers tells the Houston Chronicle that the monument, which will remain fenced off until the unveiling, is a nonpartisan and privately funded gift to the city by civic leaders and private foundations.
The monument's features include a plaza with a wall featuring four reliefs depicting key moments in the 41st president's career, an eight-foot sculpture, timelines, quotations from Bush speeches and benches for visitors.

Down here in Houston, we don't think of the elder Bush that way. He isn't our king and we don't think of him in Soviet terms. He's the guy we see at the Astros games and at Texas A&M skydiving.
We love him and his wife and if we want to spend our own money to honor him while he's still alive, then we'll do it. Well said and I agree. The Bushes are just some of Houston's favorite citizens and not regarded as regal in any way.
They are also frequently spotted at Texans' home games. I like to spy on 'em in the owner's box with my binoculars. We like to brag that we're probably the only NFL stadium that has a former President and First Lady as regular fans. I also saw them at that chic pizza place in Spring Branch once (can't remember the name...Fuzzi's or something like that? I've kind of been out of town for a while...).

At least two - Sheila Jackson Lee and Eddie Bernice Johnson, and whoever the idiots are that keep re-electing these idiots.

It's a piece of territory and a state of mind, located somewhere between Mexico and states that aren't Texas. A place where it's legal for the waitress to kill a visitor for putting ketchup in the gravy of Chicken Fried Streak.Their major export is "Tex-tosterone"

We're all Texans at heart (most of us, anyway.)
The way I see it, there's the Texas Nation, and then there's those little slivers of blue on the East and Left Coasts.

Well put. That's Texas.
Why not let him know the affection Texas feels for him while he is still alive? I don't see the problem.

It's okay! I live in a blue county!
We're the lone blue dot in SE Texas. Unions. Went 48% Bush/51%Kerry. Embarrassing, they just keep drinking the koolaid.

Yup, it is Fuzzy's. I don't know if I'd call it chic--they give you paper plates and plastic forks! But it is an excellent place to go, complete with a Wall of Fame devoted to 41 & Family. There are several Fuzzy's all over town, but the only one I go to is the one in Memorial (I'm pretty sure that's the one 41 goes to all the time, although I've never seen him there).

NO. I don't. I don't have a problem with buildings being named after them, either. Including the Bush Airport.
What is YOUR problem with it?

My sister sees him often at Sam's and Walgreen's and my aunt sees him at his favorite pizza take-out place.
You're right, he's just a guy who happened to be the most powerful man in the world.
I'm thrilled with a statue personally.

We've got a dog run park that was recently built out on the west side of town. Millie Bush Park, named after Barbara's dog.
Kinda cute, and rather popular.
