Getting Screwed by the GOP on a Running Basis
11/17/04 | Henchman

VANITY
Well today it looks like the GOP will back SPECTER for Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter is to publicly announce (see related threads on FR) that he will not block a nomination based ona proposed Judge's stanc on abortion. No mention of Specter backing strict Constitutional Constructionists, not activists. IMHO, Specter will find another reason to Bork a proposed judge.

Tom DeLay was given a pass by the GOP, today. (Check the news for specifics)

The GOP is also in the process of knocking out the requirement to label foreign grown fruits, etc., as to country of origin. It is believed Americans will favor home grown fruits and vegies. Therefor, the GOP is screwing the American Public and American Farmers.

In view of the GOP actions, we need to document the GOP actions. We need to wake them up and to do what is right and in accord with the American values on which they rode to victory. (NO I do not like the DEMS; I will quit this when the GOP wakes up)

If people want to know where their fruit comes from, ASK YOUR STORE CLERKS. It served us well for a few hundred years

Let's see, leave your cart (so they don't accuse you of shoplifting) and go up to that tiny little desk in the front (which is so small to make room for the bank in their grocery) and try to get someone who even understands your question in English. This is not the quaint little produce stand of the 19th century bub.

I wish TradeSports had a line for whether Specter will be an obstructionist A-hole. I'd make a mint off all the people running around with "Kick Me" signs on their back, saying "We've got him right where we want him!"

FWIW, I called all the members of the Judiciary Committee yesterday in opposition to Specter.

I'm "philosophical" about the outcome, though. It's possible that the pundits are right - a disgruntled Specter might do more damage off the committee than a more circumspect Specter on it.

Take a deep breath and relax.

The end of the world is not near. The seas are not rising and the sky is not really falling. Those elected will do a fine job.

Relax and enjoy the ride. It's going to be fantastic.

No he hasn't been indicted, but why change the rules for him?

Forget about Delay for a moment. The current rule is a bad rule, and it has been exposed as such by the current situation. Under current rules, if a member of the Republican leadership is indicted, they automatically lose their leadership position. No review, no appeal, no nothing. So if the Democrats can secure a partisan indictment against a member of the Republican leadership, even one without any merit, they have effectively dictated who the Republican leaders can or can't be. It only makes sense that there should be an internal review process, rather than an automatic trigger, so that Republicans get to decide who their own leaders will be, and what consititues rightful dismissal. The Democrats do not have an automatic dismissal trigger for members of their leadership, and rightfully so. The same should apply for the Republicans.

The GOP needs to get the word out. The sound bites are DeLay and slants.

I never forget to tip the waitress. I enjoy the enthusiastic service we get on a return visit. The veal is excellent over on Lido.

We will stop when the GOP BORKs Specter and does what is right ...

Henchman, as of this morning, you can add the tax reform to the list. May I give you two pieces of advice?

First, people are waking up, but it will take a long time for the awakening to reach many on here. I found out yesterday that posting the facts of the betrayal just get you hanged, so let it go. Those who aren't blind will eventually see it. Rubbing their noses in it only makes them angry and increases recovery time.

Second, don't put so much hope in this Administration. Since Reagan, we haven't had a presidential candidate, winner or loser, who gives a tinker's curse about anything other than being elected. This one is proving to be no different. Don't invest all your hopes in him. Just be pleased for the few good things he may do.

For the old maids on here, I'll save you having to type your typical, well-reasoned response to me: PIFFLE!!!

...but what is the point of blaming the GOP for what he says or does?

Well, perhaps because the GOP, including Mr. Bush, saved his candidacy from a strong, conservative, pro-life opponent in the primary?

And he has McCain, Snowe, Chaffey etc.... with him.

I am as furious as henchman, but I had this in the back of my mind the whole time.

We should not have made this a pro-lifer campaign, but a pro-constitution campaign.

Those liberal republicans (enough of them to cause serious damage) hold the right to kill babies as sacred as do the democrats.

Assuming you are a conservative...You must do the following...

Vote republican at all times..

Do not complain..

Never critisize Bush and or any republican...

Do not ask for anything in return for your vote and support...

If you insist on being heard, the hit squad here on FR will hand you your head.

I found that out. Those who perceive of themselves as the "GOP storm troopers" came fast and furious. However, there are a number of thoughtful people who posted. It is good for them as individuals to express their frustrations. Hopefully, some noted GOPer or Radio person will pick up on their dissatisfaction and do something to protect the GOP now. I knew I would get flack, but you can see the first few comments arrived within SECONDS! Also the use of vulgar "art" is pathetic.

Yes, I am a Conservative. I am willing to trade no death penalty for no abortions. I want people to have jobs with hopefully a future, so I vote GOP; but that doesn't mean I want the environment trashed based on the output of greedy corporations.

I am not anti-GOP, but I will track some of this crap and put up a score card. I can not vote DUm or I'd throw up and have to cut my left arm off. I do not want a third party splinter, ala Buchanan, but the GOP has to do what the electorate wants. If the GOP compromises now to increase their base, they deserve to get creamed from a disaffected electorate. Then they will get the gist of it.

We should not have made this a pro-lifer campaign, but a pro-constitution campaign.

We didn't, the media did. The media has been pulling this same trick for thirty years. Apparently, their standard plan #1 to discredit us pro-Constitution callers by branding us as bible-thumpers, snake handlers, and fetus-wavers is still working.

Looks like old "Single bullet, Scottish law" Arlen is going to be nominated regardless...

Personally, I made a special point to tell each Senator's office I called that I was not a religious person and that I objected to Arlen Specter on constitutional grounds, not religious.

Oh well, I said my piece...

Henchman, this is what happens when you demand absolute purity in the party's adherence to your every ideological preference.
Boxer Becomes Third Biggest Vote Getter

You lose. Just like Jimmy Carter lost Iran to fanatical, tyrannical, terrorist-supporting, America-hating nutjobs because he demanded that the Shah take measures akin to political suicide in the name of ideological purity. We lost an eager ally and supplier of invaluable Middle East intelligence. The people of Iran lost a tyrant, but he was replaced by an even more oppressive regime. Who won in that scenario?
