Bush comes to aid of Secret Service agent

President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

Perhaps Chilean officials haven't seen the pictures of SS agents with Uzis.

If you see a briefcase or a side buldge on a guy wearing sunglasses and an earpeice, he's carrying neither documents nor excess bodyfat. He's locked and loaded.

This one almost appears to have the First Lady looking backwards at the commotion. It may or may not be here, but she did look back with the President turned and went over to help out. She appears very small, inside the room next to another woman.

I know what you mean Guen....it's frightening. While I stand in awe of this president's courage, I also don't want to see him hurt in any way. It's such a dangerous world, and the powers that want him out of the way are more than just flesh and blood. Praying hard....

Just Remember - Those that stand with us are more than stand with those against us... Our Lord will uphold us in His omnipotent hand.

Actually, I don't want a public explanation. I want this dealt with internally. I think that having a huge discussion of this in public might shed more light on security measures than is a good idea. Maybe I'm naive but I think part of why security works is because the 'bad guys' don't know exactly what to plan for.

I don't get your confusion. Just because some SS are next to him doesn't mean they all are. I trust that additional SS are dispersed about and around, further away.

This is unbelievable! What were the chilean security agents thinking?! The whole point of the US secret agents is to be with the president and be ready to protect him anytime, anywhere.

My husband is an ex-Cuban and he admires our Cowboy President Bush something fierce. I won't repeat here the words he used to describe Kerry, but one day while he was searching for another name to call Kerry, I suggested "girlyman". He liked it! If my husband had his way, every future POTUS would be a Texas cowboy.

Agreed - that would have been unwise. I wouldn't want to start a gun battle in the vicinity of the President, unless it was clear that the alternative was worse - as in right here and now lethal force already targeting the President.
