President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

It doesn't look like they had kept out his entire detail. There are at least three people who look like secret service agents. Both men to the President's right have earpieces and one appears to have the same vest as the President is wearing under his suitcoat.

However, the dispute has taken their focus away from the President which is a critical problem.

I'm glad your son-in-law is back home safe after his tour of duty in Baghdad.

Prayers offered up for our other soldiers in the war zones.

LOL.... I would feel right at home except ya'll's accent would be different!

Happy birthday!!!

Another bit of vanity - but TODAY - is my grandson's birthday too. He was born in Wiesbaden, Germany last year while my son-in-law was in Iraq!

And... :-) ... the 24th is my favorite aunt's birthday! YOU are in GREAT company this week! BEST WISHES!!!

Your assesment is the most astute that I have yet read, however... in the end, it was handled and it was handled with authority and genuine leadership that the DU types cannot blow off as a planned photo op.

It was very dangerous. I bet W is told to NEVER do that again. He walked into the middle of a scuffle between trained individuals with guns. I thought it was pretty neat until I thought about it further.

My assessment is that (in that photo, MediaMole) those several standing immediately by the President as he approaches the fray are not USSS, but rather, Chilean protection service amd[protocol types. Further, if the USSS were standing next to him, I am sure they may have blocked the President from getting into the fray. He's walking over pretty much on his own here.

my guess would be that W's comment to the member of his detail, besides "you OK?" would have gone one of two directions. Either "what was that about?" or "yippee kai yay..." you know the rest.

I am glad that Laura has a close friend, to share some of this part of her life with.

The Chilean security forces knew this man was part of President Bush's security. This was not a dry run. President Bush’s quick reaction most likely prevented his own assassination.

"Now I'm wondering if the agent will be reprimanded or blamed in any way by his Secret Service supervisors for any part in the disagreement with the Chilean security. It is my hope that he isn't, but those guys in the Secret Service have very rigid rules and regs to follow."

Wonder no more. Based on what I have seen from President Bush, the agent will not be focused on - he's a great administrator (remember he has an MBA from Yale), the Chileans are definitely in the wrong on this. If it were Clinton, our agent would have been indicted.

The difference is The President eats the food he orders, Kerry throws it away and dines on catered delicacies on a bus. What a hypocrite, are we blessed to not have Kerry for president or what?

Have you ever been to huntsville before?

NO! And I am excited about it. I have seen pictures and it is beautiful! The only time I've seen Alabama was driving through on I-10 when my son-in-law was stationed in Florida.

I am looking forward to the Space Center also! My daughter is working on talking me into applying for work with some of the defense contractors in Huntsville. My son-in-law will be retiring in less than 2 years and already has an offer from a contractor there. They say it would be nice to have Granny close by for babysitting etc. :-)
