President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

I hear from other sources on FR at one time that SS love Bush family

They hate Clintons Gore and I don't remember who they didn't like
either
-------

Yes, this is the same as what I have always read about them.

There have been several very ugly stories about the clintons.

Only a week or so ago, there was a FR thread, that talked about the BBQ's that Bush puts on at the ranch for his Secret Service.

Then, the agent is in and doing his job.

As others have said, the Chilean police knew damn well who the S.S. agents were. Bush's quick thinking may well have prevented his own assasination.

Ditto, here! We can joke about it but I do kinda get cold sweats when I know he is out of the country. And I am going to be really paranoid and say that I can hardly wait till the inauguration so he won't be a '00 president any longer. You remember the old thing about all presidents being elected to '00 terms are harmed (think Lincoln, Kennedy and Reagan). Forgive me for even bringing it up, but I have prayed this entire 4-year term that he would break this boogey, just as he has broken other records! GOD LOVE AND KEEP HIM AND HIS WIFE AND OUR BELOVED AMERICA!

Well, it's the "in a manner which will not bring embarrassment to the President" part which got the agent hung up, apparently, after the Chilean security people closed ranks in front of him. If his superior chooses to chastise him, I would submit that the superior is being petty, given the constraints the agent is required to follow.

Thanks for the ping Eaker. How many 'Leaders' of countries would bother to do something like this?

It really shows the goodness of this man [the President] and I'm always amazed that the liberals can't see it.

Seriously, though, I think it was some communication breakdown.

That's probably what happened, and I'm sure that somebody, either American or Chilean, is getting their butt chewed out as we speak. Unfortunately these kinds of things happen all the time at lower levels, but not at that level.

This appears to be a Big Time screw-up, the SS is always right next to the Pres
I don't get your confusion. Just because some SS are next to him doesn't mean they all are. I trust that additional SS are dispersed about and around, further away.<<<<<<<<<<<<

Three security personel were with the President when he left them to go help the other agent.

I agree! An unprotected gun and the President in the middle of a skirmish. Very scary.

What kind of revolver is that? A mere 7-10 feet from the President, with Bush's head S.S. agent's arms locked with a Chilean policeman's. Easy shot. Terrifying photo.

Thanks so much for the ping- I still dont' totally get the whole story. And I do bet that the SS will be reprimanded for W having to come to his rescue. Well, unless W intervenes for him, which I bet he will.

Our President just flat out rocks. He just dives in with no thought of his own safety or protocol. I would love to see the "parting of the red sea" when W steps in the fracas and says "that's my guy" LOL! Nothing like having the President vouch for you.

I personally think they could be thinking on the line "You are in my country, Bush, and under our laws we are authorized toprotect you and not the US bodyguards.". This involves sovereignty and jurisdiction.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I don't know about you but I'm thinking this is the POTUS and your Country needs to show him proper respect or else. That's what I would think.

Here are the pics. Diogenesis posted the first two at #113 of the incident in Chile involving one of the Secret Service detail being denied entry. Check it out.

Bush is aware of his people. He halts while walking with Laura and some dignitary...and sees the problem.

...and he goes over there HIMSELF and takes care of it. Reaching in, grabbing his man and telling the Chileans that that agent is with him and he's coming in.

"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."

Most would have wlaked right on by figuring it was beneath them to get involved. Think Clinton or Kerry.

Then, the agent is in and doing his job.

Word of Bush did will spread through the ranks like wild fire.

Bush is a leader...one that will inspire people to follow. He's not afraid to get right down to their level and get involved on behalf of his own. Says a lot.

I will say that at least the Chileans were challenging people. I've been to nations or been in situations where security was not that tight.

That last agent looks hispanic. Maybe they just looked at the color of his skin and automatically assumed he wasn't with the president.

My husband, an American, is from Chile originally. He said, "I'm so embarrassed!" Then he called one of his brothers in Santiago to laugh at him.

"Bwaaaaaahaaaaahaaaaa!--click."
"Hello?"

Too many Senators have obviously sold their souls to the puppet masters and THEIR lord satan. Guess their balls are in satan's vice and they haven't the horse sense to call on God Almighty for deliverance and redress.

Glad W knows who God is and stands firmly on His side.

More...here's a very worriesome picture that took place during the altercation while the President was coming to his man's aid.

Unprotected firearm hanging out there while the President is not far away...his face is right there to the upper right. Not good at all.
