The rate of scout leaders doing this sort of thing has decreased tremendously since the bsa yp was started. It's not perfect but it works.

The Catholic Church's VIRTUS program (Nat'l Catholic Risk Retention Alliance), an education program required of all persons working with children in any Catholic Church setting, states that homosexuality and pedophilia are NOT related. They really made a point of it, too.

So, it's not just turning a blind eye to the problem, the Catholic Church is promulgating this misinformation.

Could be. It's a fact that it won't work for the sickos since the rate of protestant ministers abusing children is almost equal to that of priests. Marriage isn't the solution for preventing child abuse in the ministry. It may help in garnering more catholic priests in the future as you stated.

I've always thought that the BSA should just restate its policy on scout leaders, changing it to: "Mindful that scout leaders will often be placed in intimate unsupervised settings with scouts, no individual who is sexually attracted to males will be allowed as a scout leader." This would encompass both females and homosexual males and thus remove the homosexual argument from the discussion.

Follow the money...and I'm not Catholic bashing. In 53 years I have not found an organized religion that doesn't cater to to the money. Most of the people I've run across are good and decent folks...the wealth-seeking higher-ups have always desecrated the main purpose.

There's actually a wealth of psychological and anthropological evidence to suggest that adult male homosexuality is an obsessive disorder (I'm not saying that it therefore is not a sin; all kinds of sins are also obsessive). It occurs when the normal bonding of males with other males in childhood is prevented or corrupted, or is associated with cruelty and humiliation. So the homosexual male "knows" that he has always felt attracted to other males, because in point of fact he always has. But his mistake is in thinking that he is alone in this regard. All males long for those bonds -- those friendships, those blood brotherhoods.

They long for them more -- and, sometimes, more achingly -- than women can imagine. When this longing is frustrated by a cruel or absent father, or by repeated humiliation at the hands of the other boys, or by a possessive and sissifying mother, or, horrible to think, by an actual incident of seduction and molestation, the jig is up. At puberty the unfulfilled longing becomes sexualized.

Anyone notice how strange it is that male homosexuality should focus so obsessively, not only on youth, but on such pre-puberty fascinations of boys as urination, defecation, voyeurism, and so forth? They are fixed at the emotional age when everything first went wrong.

SO THEN, THESE are the people you want anywhere near boys??? Most, no doubt, will NOT act on their impulses. But they will feel those impulses (as heterosexual males, if they are normal, feel absolutely nothing in the presence of some 12-year-old girl). They will feel them, and they will not be able to help REACTING from them, in the form of a funny word or two, or too much interest in the boy's life, or a squeeze of the shoulder, or an inappropriate joke, or a suggestive revelation about what life is REALLY like, or something. In no case is it a healthy situation.
