Uh...yeah. I wish I were as true a Conservative as you. Then I could judge others for not being my type of Conservative

Yeah....you're a real "Conservative"...attack the messenger, not the message....think it's OK that a PC MORON is in charge of Domestic Transportation policy...go along to get along...probably a Collins and Snowe supporter (can't rock the boat, right?).

Nice try. It's these type of actions and ideas that have specifically LED US to where we are today...but I guess you are OK with that. Just better not point out your follies...otherwise I guess you'll scold me again...

You have to watch what the administration does, rather than listen to what it says.

Bush#43 is, at times, too much like Bush#41. They want the Democrats to love them, which only results in both Dems and Republicans hating them.

Maybe he was afraid Asians would balk at Mineta's removal.

More than Asians. Mineta has a "superstar" aura among the media. Bush and Rove probably calculated that sacking him would be borrowing trouble - and Homeland Security is where the real power will reside, anyway.

He's PC, and he does the bidding of the airline industry. Apparently, that's enough for Bush.

From Ann Coulter:

The Department of Transportation filed a complaint against United Airlines, claiming United removed passengers from flights in "a few instances" based on their race, color, national origin, religion or ancestry. Mineta gave United no credit for so scrupulously ignoring ethnicity on Sept. 11 that it lost four pilots, 12 flight attendants, and 84 passengers (not including the nine Arab hijackers). In November 2003, United settled the case for $1.5 million.

In another crucial anti-terrorism investigation undertaken by Norman Mineta, the Department of Transportation claimed that between Sept. 11, 2001, and Dec. 31, 2001, American Airlines – which lost four pilots, 13 flight attendants and 129 passengers (not including 10 Arab hijackers) on Sept. 11 by ignoring the ethnicity of its passengers – removed 10 individuals who appeared to be Middle Eastern from American Airline flights as alleged security risks. On March 1, 2004, American Airlines settled the case for $1.5 million.

Frontpage

I know Coulter can be a little flaky at times, but I would bet that those airlines that were fined had reasons to pull the passengers other than they just looked Arab.

Did Bush violate a specific campaign promise or something?

Was it that the administration wanted him to stay or that Mineta just didn't want to leave? I'm gonna miss some of the other cabinet members, but I understand that it is a stressful job.

I remembered Mineta was such an arrogant @$$ when there was talk on getting rid of 55 mph speed limit and he was a congressman. He mentioned that states had the right to set their speed limit as long as it didn't go over 55 mph.

I really doubt "no racial profiling" originated from Bush.

Sounds like a Clinton policy, much like "Don't ask, don't tell".

Powell out is bad. Mineta in is bad.

Certainly, the good appointments outweigh the bad ones, but SecTrans is a WOT-related position, and it's filled by a Clinton holdover who has publically stated that he hopes 70 year old women are screened with the same attention that 20 year old Muslim men are!
