My middle daughter worked her heart out with high school friends this election, even though she doesn't turn 18 until next month. Thanks to her and a group of like-minded friends, she not only was able to help deliver our area for GWB, but also able to help retire Al Kukovich, the Tom Daschle of the Pennsylvania Senate, and replace him with a pro-family conservative. The kids of both candidates attend her high school, so it got pretty heated at times, though the conservative kids held their ground.
Anyway, she has asked for an election celebration theme for her 18th birthday party next month. She intends to invite 30-50 of the kids who she worked with and we are planning to rent a public hall to host the event.
To say that we don't have a lot of money is a gross understatement, but I want to reward her and the other kids for a job well done. Some of the things she has asked for include a Michael Moore poster to throw darts at, red, white and blue balloons, election posters and such which shouldn't be too hard to get.
We are also considering getting some party favors like Ronald Reagan memorial calendars from The Young America Foundation if I can arrange a quantity in exchange for a modest contribution.
Of course, she wants to serve Grape Kool-Aid with Kerry stickers on them and has a number of other ideas. I aam also thinking of writing to Condi Rice, Laura Bush and some of her other heros to see if their staff can send her a card or something.
I want to make this event memorable for her and her friends without spending a lot of money. Since there is about a month to prepare, we'd welcome any suggestions to welcome this young lady and her like-minded friends into the ranks of conservative voters.
You got rid of Kukovich! Excellent! Tell her congrats!
The Only acceptable foot wear? What else but FLIP-FLOPS, and on the menu will be the Dean ice-SCREAM to go along with the TAY-ray-ZUH let them eat cake Birthday cake. Remember Dad has to attend as the WesClark Stuffed Shirt.
Go the the Oriental Trading Company for patriotic novelties and decorations at reasonable prices.
Do an inaugural theme so everyone can come all dressed up in their finest clothes.

"I aam also thinking of writing to Condi Rice, Laura Bush and some of her other heros "....
What about your Congressman, Representative, State Senator &c.? Perhaps they'd be willing to stop by and say a few words of support and thanks for her civic involvement.
Remember, all politics is local.
Patriotic decor, positive party favors and messages from her heroines sound lovely but I would draw the line at gloating, throwing darts and making fun of our opponents. I wouldn't want my child doing this on his own, let alone "host" it or ever be anything less than gracious in victory.
Cardboard cell-phone favors, I assume they did a lot of calling.
Where zee heck did you find those??
Rent a karaoke set up. I did that for my daughter's 16'th birthday and it was a big hit! I think it cost about $150, if I remember correctly, but that was a professional set up with loads of CD's and big speakers. The kids (and adults) had a blast.
As a busy person, CR let's me stay up to speed on the latest poltical books and gives me an idea of whether I might want to buy them or not.
Audible is also great for a busy person - many great books and a free audio player with the subscription. As an English teacher, I don't have a problem with young people using audible. For me, some books are much more powerful when read aloud by a talented reader.
Also - treat her and some friends to a night out at the movies - which reminds me! Michael Moore Hates America is coming out on DVD in a few days. Two versions - one with swears taken out. I think there is a deal if you buy it in the next few days.
Happy Birthday!!!
