Please spare me the lectures, but I am thinking about taking my wife (who is a fan) to their concert next month in Columbia, SC, and want to know whether I can ethically support them or not. I do not willingly give my $$$ to libs if I can help it. Thanks in advance.
Also, I'm embarrassed to admit I can't think of the other bands she was with, they had songs in "O Brother where art thou". They were just as wonderful as she was. I'm guessing she may still be touring with them but I don't know. This was about 6 months ago.
Oh yeah, Union Station is the best live band I've ever heard, thats for sure.
It's called voting with your wallet. I don't support things I oppose.
I would tend to disagree (if one can disagree with a self assesment) to that label. I read your profile and you sound as if you actually are open minded, fair and willing to listen to what others have to say. That my friend is not a liberal. Liberals only think they are open minded, fair and willing to listen to others. ;)
Welcome to Free Reopublic.
I saw her at the State Theater two years ago and it was without a doubt the best performance I have ever been to. Quit checking political backgrounds and go.
Maybe. Matthews Alive is probably right out, not enough return on the time and money investment if we have to come all the way from Richmond. Festival in the Park might be worth the five-hour drive down I-85, but there's a pretty good chance that I might not make it; I get five vacation days after six months on the job, and will probably need most of those for the Yellow Daisy Festival in Atlanta two weeks before. Avery can grab a friend to help her, though, so she still may do it.
This opportunity fell into our laps rather suddenly, and I told her I wouldn't go for it if she thought it'd mess up her jewelry career, but she insisted on me pursuing the new job and it worked out. The good thing is that there a lot of higher-end shows in the DC areas and parts north, so this may open up a whole new avenue for her jewelry and get her into more exclusive territory. We'll see. God's been great to us so far, there's no reason to figure it'll stop now. :)

I am in the process of wearing out AKUS's live double CD. I grabbed it on a whim and can't stop playing it. All five of them are astounding musicians in their own rights, put them together and it's a supergroup. When she calls Jerry Douglas "the greatest Dobro player the world has ever known," I don't think she's exaggerating!

Does this also apply to politicians? If so, you must have a tough time at the polls.

I disagree with you. If the performer(s) support liberal causes then I refuse to give them MY HARD EARNED MONEY!
Allison has a voice like four angels.
Go and enjoy........
Jerry Douglas is acknowledged by many as the best Dobro player in the world. He also plays for other people. I saw him on TV recently playing with Vince Gill on a Eric Clapton special. Vince and Jerry really tore it up!
Dan Tyminski is awesome and had a huge hit with Man of Constant Sorrow and Ron Block writes some wonderful Christian songs and plays the banjo and guitar beautifully.
The whole band is awesome, for sure. I also love that live CD!
Have no idea as to her politics, but her voice to me is like fingernails dragged across the chalkboard - if anyone is old enough to get that.
That was also Union Station. One and the same.
I agree on this point. Once these clowns start spouting their views publicly I would no longer support them.
My dad does, and he's a life-long Democrat.
Not really that religious but the Allison Krauss rendition of "Heaven's Bright Shore" is probly the best ever.
Just got out some CD's and it's up next........
Bluegrass doesn't get much better than Skaggs. As for his politics, I know he is very conservative. At his shows he always unabashedly tries to put a little Christian message in.
Alison Krauss' duet of Louvin Brothers' "How's the World Treating You" is one of the best recordings I've ever heard.
Too bad the duet is with lefty James Taylor.
