Please spare me the lectures, but I am thinking about taking my wife (who is a fan) to their concert next month in Columbia, SC, and want to know whether I can ethically support them or not. I do not willingly give my $$$ to libs if I can help it. Thanks in advance.
That was my bad...I thought it was a free download, but it was just a 30-second sample.
Your ear is made of rusted tin.
Could be true, but I don't much like the way she sounds doing it :-). Just a personal taste ...
Well, when I read that Michael read your profile, munchtipq, I was curious and did the same.
Welcome to Free Republic! I'm glad you joined & look forward to reading your posts.
Lord, you're trying hard to be the one farter in the church, aren't you . . .
Emmylou doesn't enunciate at all - and for many, her voice is just as much of an acquired taste as Alison's can be.
Not sayin' you can't have an opinion...but it's just an opinion.
Me, I like 'em both!
I grew up on Doc Watson, though, so I do have a soft spot for the version of the song you mentioned.
Yup.
It's what I do.
And, she's ridiculously hot.
So, where do you fall?
Well, I was always taught that the word "liberal" was meant generally supporting small government with regards to cultural and social issues, and bigger government with regards to economic issues. This is where I consider myself, so I call myself liberal. If that's not the consensus view of liberalism, blame my civics teacher. And tell me what word I'm supposed to use for that general position.
Slumming?
Exactly. I've been invited to go with friends to see several entertainers/lecturers who I'd really like to see if they could just stick to the material. But, I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay good money to listen to people disrespect the president or in my case, call me an Aunt Thomasina for voting Republican.
It shouldn't matter what their politics are, and I'm willing to be apolitical when actors just act or singers just sing, but when they open their mouths to spout politics, I don't want to hear it and I certainly don't want to pay for it.
She talks like she believes in Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
I really hate that. I go to concerts to hear music, if I had wanted politics I would have stayed home and watched C-Span.
I have not heard what political leanings Allison Krauss has and I prefer to keep it that way. Shut up and sing is actually good advise whether I agree with the politics or not because I am not there for that.
Just IMHO
Ricky Skaggs is a fundamentalist Bible believing Christian. I believe Allison is also. I know the banjo player who also plays lead acoustical guitar is Ron Block. He wrote a song called "This Must Be The REason".Dan Timinski is a Christian. Jerry Douglass..I do not know. As for music, there will not be found better music or musicians. Jerry Douglas is considered the best Resonator Guitarist in the world. And Allison can really play the fiddle. A purer voice will never be found than that of Allison Krause.
The fact that you don't know is a good sign. I don't care what her politics are as long as she keeps singing. If she stops singing and starts pontificating about matters political, then I might have a problem.
What I do know is that when she sings, she has my undivided attention.
She's a member of the PEOPLE FOR THE AMERICAN WAY. She donated something to their online auction last month. Hope this helps you.
