Pictures of a vietnamese Re-Education Camp (Vietnam Human Rights Bill)
International Christian Concern ^ | 12/27/2004 | Montagnard Foundation

Keep in prayer for the Vietnam Human Rights Bill. It is presently in the Senate after passing by a wide margin in the House.

If you have any doubt about whether the Bill should pass, take a look at the picture below of an actual re-education camp in Vietnam provided by the Montagnard Foundation. Re-education camps are where believers are typically sent.

Stay tuned as we will post a picture per day over the next 4 days.

HEAR HEAR!!

Yes, if the US Embassy could have delivered a message to the world after Cronkite told the people the Embassy had been overrun, things would be a lot different.

Our Soldiers in Vietnam had that war won. The people in this country lost it for them. The people let others steal their resolve away.

We need to keep our resolve and fight the traitors who wish to steal it.

I will not waver, tire, falter, or fail.

Peace and freedom will prevail - W

I was in Khanh Hoa this summer after four years. The changes are pretty impressive in that time. The social and economic disabilities really were dropped from the Catholics last year and new construction is going on all over Cam Duc and Thon Tan, Catholic towns. For the first time I saw chubby children and the yard dogs, much more numerous now, all seem to be well fed. Everyone I had met in '03 is more prosperous now. The Bo Dois were much more evident as the government folks try, futilely, to keep some kind of control of things and I got followed around everywhere unlike last time when I was pretty much ignored. But their hearts were not in it. I got an apology from one young troop I cornered in a cafe where he had stopped for a break. I tried to buy him a coffee but he got flustered and apologized for the harrassment, which was pretty ineffectual anyway. He refused the coffee because he said it wouldn't go over well with his superiors and the cafe proprietor would tell on him. People are more careful now about their speech than in '03 and the term VeeCee for government people has faded but I did hear it a time or two.

I stayed a couple of nights in a MOTEL. There are a bunch of them along the old Rue Sans Joie and they cater to traveling motorbikes though there are usually a couple of cars there, too. About $4.20 a night- no A/C but the fans are sufficient and the place was clean and has modern plumbing. Having coffee with the proprietors and some of the other guests and at least one bo doi before going to bed was nice.

I found my name on the wall in a convent I have sent money to these four years. That was nice.

The highway bus station I stopped at last time had been pretty primitive with open trough type facilities for the men and a low wall around the bombsights in the Women's area. Now there are large modern tiled rest rooms and good ventilation with modern plumbing and multiple stations.

The numbers show that there has been inflation but the prices outside of Sai Gon don't seem to reflect that at all.

The changes are coming fast enough now that the people who live there day to day can see them happening and are much more optimistic than four years ago. People are starting to feel they can improve their lives by the fruits of their labor now. The corruption is still endemic but individuals' capital is building despite it.

The roads are much improved and work that seemed terminally stalled in '03 has been completed and the roads are much better with fewer and much less precarious detours. There are probably 60 miles of limited access four-lane running NE out of Sai Gon now and there is a fine four lane tourist highway running up to Nha Trang with landscaping maintained by herds of goats.

That’s a LOT of viewings!!

I couldn’t believe what I heard on Drudge Sunday, about
cameras on street corners with microphones to RECORD what people say on the street!

The day will come when political protestors, and Freepers, will have every word watched and recorded when they meet together just to wave a flag!

Oh, President Hillary, who is rolling out
the RED carpet for you?

Even before the Presidency begins, the THIRD WAY begins.

...did you recieve any feed back on what happens to the people who aren’t after the Secret Police comes and gets them out of thier homes in the dead of night..?

tribunal in Cambodia charged the commandant of the main Khmer Rouge torture house with crimes against humanity

This is good news. When do you think we will get a bigger fish, like Hanoi Jane?

She should be put on trial too. I believe that if the US would have had resolve, we would have won it. I believe Hanoi Jane helped destroy our resolve which helped lead to Khmer Rouge Torture houses in Cambodia. I also believe Jihad Jane would do it again too.

... I've seen interviews with South Vietnamese who claimed they were sharecroppers under the old regime with no possibility of owning land, that the VC split up and old plantatations and pretty much gave them the land that they'd been working forever...

Really? Communist gave the land to the peasants? How does that work? The state owns the land under communism.

... A real war between the US and North Vietnam should last a year, tops.

Vietnam started out as a proxy war and stayed that way for fear of all out nuclear war. Those were the rules in the 1960's, limited warfare. Learn your history.

...Moreover, there is no rational way anybody can ask draftees to fight in such a thing...

At the time, the US Military was made up of volunteers and draftees. Fighter pilots and most servicemen in responsible charge of men or important equipment were volunteers. Do you think the NVA were conscripts or draftees?

Wishful thinking. No one is sent to a re-education camp simply for being Christian.

Christian mores are the antitheses of Communism. If a Christian gives a Communist bureaucrat a wrong look, the Christian is in for a rough ride. This is true in any communist society. Marx thought religion would undermine communism and despised it. The reports I read are worst in the Central Highlands where the Montagnards live. These are the dark skinned indigenous people who once lived all over Vietnam thousands of years ago until the pale yellow skinned invaders took over the lowlands. They drove the Montagnards to the highlands. They persecute them to this day.

Foreigners are now being allowed to buy houses (and land?) in Vietnam. Vietnam is very much capitalist at this point.
