Stolen Election?
The Wall Street Journal ^ | January 12, 2005 | WSJ

Posted on 01/12/2005 5:46:59 AM PST by Brilliant

Democrat Christine Gregoire will be sworn in as Washington's Governor today, possibly thanks to voters such as Mary Coffey, James Courneya and Rosalie Simpson. Why do we mention them in particular? Because, as the Seattle Post-Intelligencer recently reported, they're all dead...

Revelations of the formerly living casting ballots in elections isn't new to American politics, although it's something most of us thought was a relic of the late Richard Daley's Chicago. But this isn't the only jaw-dropper to have come out of Washington's gubernatorial race, which Ms. Gregoire claims to have won -- on a third recount, by 129 votes -- over Republican Dino Rossi. Now Mr. Rossi is contesting the result in state court...

Mr. Rossi certainly has a mountain of evidence on his side. In December, officials in King County...discovered 573 "erroneously rejected" absentee ballots, plus another 150 uncounted ones that showed up in a South Seattle warehouse. There were reports that hundreds of voters were registered in storage rental facilities and private mailboxes, that felons had voted, and that military ballots were sent out too late to be counted. Then we learned that several hundred provisional ballots had simply been fed into voting machines, making it impossible to authenticate their legality. Now it turns out the number of votes cast in King County exceeds the total number of voters by about 1,800.

County election officials insist these are all honest goofs, and that the vote tally was "99.9% accurate." ... But when the outcome of an election hinges on a considerably smaller fraction than 0.1%, the Ivory soap standard isn't good enough. ...53% of Washingtonians believe Mr. Rossi won... 36% ...think Ms. Gregoire won... Washingtonians also want a revote by a similar margin.

We sympathize with Mr. Rossi.... But ...no court is likely to reverse the result...

In line with the thinking of Dan Rather, who, when speaking of bill clinton, insisted a person could lie and still be an honest person.

(Also, I'm not anywhere near an expert on the man, but a lot of WA FReepers have suggested that Rossi is a RINO so he might not be a bad one to take one for the team)

What is it about the strange culture on FR that we need to practice fratricide every chance we get?

At least that is heartening news!

Of course, they open the article with a dead person's ballot for W and Rossi.

Well, to answer that question honestly, I think I speak for many here when I say that I'm a BIG C Conservative and a little r Republican.  I recently ran for office and I ran as an R, because of the two major parties, there was little choice.  However many of my fellow R candidates didn't share any of the Conservative convictions that I have.

There was a raging controversy on the PA board after Specter (RINO) beat Pat Toomey (Cr) in the primary.  Many felt they'd rather have the enemy they know, not working in their name (Joe Hoeffel D), than the unpredictable, political opportunist working as a Republican.

Unfortunately WA is mostly democratic thus the demo will win and people of WA will forget during the next election.

I sincerely hope they remember and rise against this type of treachery.

Does Washington state have a recall procedure for governor?

It has been widely reported that Rossi is not interested in a Senate seat, but only in reforming Washington State government. Beyond that, do you think that he could beat Cantwell? If the present election fraud is not overturned, then who would have faith in the next election to be more honest with Gregoirevych running the state machinery.

I don't think that WA is mostly Democratic wrt the Governor race - King County (specifically Seattle) is and it's the most populated county in the state. I don't remember the specifics, but I want to say that only about 7 of the 39 counties went to Fraudoire; and, that about 52% of King County outside of Seattle went to Rossi.

You are correct though in that the Dims hold the majority in both houses of the state legislature (just barely in the Senate). I suspect that if a revote was held for them now, they would lose some of that majority.

Cantwell won by the skin of her teeth last time after a long recount and she's in debt now. It's obvious that the democrats in Washington statewide elections are on the knife's edge of losing power. If Rossi doesn't want a Senate seat, then he should work to get the legislature changed and then he can challenge Gregoire in the next election, whenever that may be, a recall or in 4 years. But I believe the Senate seat is there for the taking.

Looks like they stole it. I doubt that it will be fixed.

Are you saying we should just walk away?

the GOP needs to put its money where its mouth is. Proof of election fraud should be presented to a GJ, and those who perpetrated it should be charged with a crime.

It's underway already.

Only once since FDR's first election in 1932 has Washington tossed out an incumbent Democrat Senator -- and that incumbent was 85 years old, couldn't walk and couldn't string more than about 5 cogent words together (Magnuson in the Reagan election of 1980).

Cantwell has none of those problems, and is, in fact, pretty well situated with the largely union blue collar, radical environmental and gay/free sex interests that between them, dominate Seattle. She has also portrayed herself rather successfully with the large moderate Democrat cohort that dominates the party outside of Seattle - it is these Democrats, largely from the Puget Sound Megalopolis surrounding Seattle, that abandoned Gregoire in surprising numbers.

So I don't see where the "pity" vote for Rossi really overcomes those built-in advantages that Cantwell has here.

And on top of that, the Democrat Fraud Machine will still be intact in this state (it might even be more powerful and determined, with this success and the fear of failure now motivating them) -- that comes from the state government -- so why would we expect a different result in that race? And electing a Republican U.S. Senator will do nothing to fix Washington state's problems that are so evident here.

I live in Washington state and what has happened is simply the most obvious case of fraud ever committed in modern times. The DNC pulled out all the stops and the unions who finance the operation went at it full throttle. A stolen election anywhere is wrong and the spotlight of truth must stay on this. I would bet our state voted for Bush also if the count were correct. Patti Murray won also and she should have been outed also. She is a Clinton kool aid drinker along with Cantwell. The state now has three, count em, three Clintonites running the show. Shame shame shame.
