UK 'yes' camp takes lead for first time
by Richard Carter
2-9-2005
For the first time more people in the UK are in favour of the proposed European Constitution than against it... The Populus poll for the Times showed 36 percent of people saying "yes" to the question "should the UK approve the treaty establishing a Constitution for the European Union". Only 29 percent replied "no"... [P]ollsters have said that the words "approve" and "treaty" are positive, pushing people towards a "yes" vote... A date for the referendum in the UK has not yet been set, but is expected in Spring next year.

No vote on EU constitution would see Britain 'weak and isolated': FM
Yahoo
Wed, Feb 09, 2005
Spurning the constitution, designed to streamline the administration of the expanded 25-member bloc, would see London slip into "a semi-detached position in Europe", unable to halt changes being made by other members... Ministers face a long and bruising battle ahead of the promised referendum, which will not be called until after a general election expected in May, and is most likely to take place in the spring of 2006. Opinion polls show many Britons are deeply suspicious of the planned changes, a mood fanned by the profoundly anti-EU tone of some domestic newspapers.
Oh, those pesky domestic newspapers! Why in the world would anyone listen to those? It's clear that EU policy will be dominated by France and Germany, neither of which would countenance such quagmires as Iraq, Iran, and Sudan, while pushing for immediate steps in Kosovo, North Korea, and the Ivory Coast.

I've heard that LandRover/MG has gone to bankruptcy, and their last hope -- a Chinese company -- bailed.
