Expatriot Vote has Effect in Iraq
While the big day here is Jan. 30, Iraqi elections overseas have already begun. The coverage of these overseas elections is having an effect on the homeland.
Officials said the extensive Arab media coverage of the expatriate voting process is encouraging Iraqis to vote here. "They see the real happiness that Iraqis in the other countries exhibit at being able to vote," said an Iraqi official. "It is contagious."
No official will forecast what the voter turnout might be. "In some areas of the country it will be very high," the official said. "In others, it depends on what the security situation is as the people decide to go out."
Sending out prayers that freedom and courage prevail in that troubled country tomorrow and beyond.

Well I think "expatriot" implies you are no longer a patriot of your country and "expatriate" implies you are a patriot but you're living elsewhere.

Well, guess another talking point is sacrificed to reality.
I noticed some of the pundits were trying to create controversy about those never in Iraq being given the right to vote. Looks as though their right to vote is giving the Iraqi's IN Iraq courage. Amazing.

I think it is interesting that, while the President of the United States is the most powerful leader in the world, not for the least of reasons being that he has the most magnificent military the world has ever known at his disposal, the real power that he wields is in his ideas.

If all the Iraqis living outside Iraq vote, and none of the Iraqis living in Iraq vote, do we declare victory?
