I had the biopsy this morning, and a metal marker was inserted, which makes me a little nervous.

I still have a pair of tattoos on my belly to align the linear accelerator. Consider it a notch in your belt in the fight to hang in here. Prayers and crossed fingers for good news on Wednesday.

You're welcome. I'm sure the licensing protocol differs in each state. Ours was issued by the county fire marshal. Unfortunately that could imply that some states have really lax rules. We also have enough reasons to handle the immigration problem. We just need the @*&#s to handle the illegals :-)

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been expanded to Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Regulation is now federalized and more carefully scrutinized. Some states such as California have started tracking purchases of smokeless powder for reloading firearms ammo. Smokeless powder is not an explosive. It is a propellent. It doesn't detonate like a true explosive. Such tracking is mostly useless harassment of people who reload ammo.

"Federal Judge Finds Two Dead in Chicago Home"
Reuters ^ | 28FEB05 | Reuters

Posted on 03/01/2005 12:32:36 AM PST by familyop

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CHICAGO (Reuters) - A federal judge who was the target of a death plot by a jailed white supremacist returned to her home on Monday to find two people dead inside, police said.

Chicago police spokesman Pat Camden would only say there was a "death investigation" under way and released no names. But the Chicago Tribune on its Web site said the dead were the husband and mother of the U.S. District Court judge, Joan Lefkow, and that their bodies were found lying in blood."

"A Dead Soldier's Words on Iraq: "The Price Is Worth It" (RIP Sgt. 1st Class David J. Salie) "
Military Online ^ | February 24, 2005 | Joe Galloway

Posted on 02/28/2005 9:39:34 PM PST by Former Military Chick

FORT BENNING, Ga. -

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Perhaps the most poignant and moving words of the day were those spoken by Sgt. Salie himself. He had a strong feeling that his luck was running out, after almost 17 years in the Army and combat tours in the Persian Gulf War, Panama and Haiti.

So before he left the comfortable bungalow on sergeant's row on this military post, David Salie sat down and recorded a number of video CDs for his wife, children and parents.

Deanna Salie asked me to come to their home to view one that she felt was important to share with the American people. It was Sgt. Salie speaking from the heart.

There he was. Six-foot-five, 200 pounds. His captain described him as a "mountain of a man." Also "a gentle giant." Wearing a high and tight haircut befitting a sergeant of Infantry.

``Well,'' he said, ``this is the suck tape. If you are watching this one, then you know I won't be coming home.'' He told Deanna and the children that he knew it would hurt "but I will always be there with you."

He added that there were things left undone in Iraq the last time he was in that part of the world in the Gulf War and that he believed we had to go back if the people of Iraq were to have a better life and better opportunity like his family enjoys here.

"The price is worth it," Sgt. Salie said. "In my heart.""

Zarqawi is not an Iraqi terrorist. He is a global terrorist operating in Iraq. His specialty is not beheadings and car bombings. He operated an advanced chemical and biological weapons program for al Qaeda for many years starting prior to 9/11 with tacit support from Iran, Iraq and Syria. His crowning organizational achievement is not his al Qaeda affiliated cells in Iraq operating within a coordinated insurgency - - it was a global WMD attack network spanning not countries, but continents.

Granted, it is assumed that much of that network was taken down two years ago (116 network members arrested) prior to the Iraq War in order to preempt a WMD attack that was likely planned on Europe and/or the U.S.

Perhaps there was more to the network than what was unearthed (after all, if we have got everyone, how can Tony Blair say there are hundreds still at large in the UK alone?) .

Or perhaps all that is needed to carry out the attack is the logistics part of that old Zarqawi network. Another set of players also backed by the same set of state sponsors might handle the actual attack - - operatives *much* more professional and competent than anything UBL, Zawahiri, or Zarqawi could ever hope to achieve.

The multi-layered Iraqi insurgency was planned years before the invasion.

Redundancy was also likely built into follow-on attack options (second wave) on the American homeland.

Blair says there are still "hundreds" prepared to strike in Britain?

If that is indeed the case, one would have a difficult job in developing a rational argument why there would be a lesser number inside the primary target - - the United States. It is not as if the UK is less aggressive with their domestic security.

The current public understanding of the national threat level and what little analysis I have seen so far in the media since the news broke yesterday is facile, naive, and divorced from reality.

Yes, both of these individuals are supposedly on the run or in hiding.

But they only need to give orders, not execute them.

And in the days before 9/11, UBL was also living in caves constantly on the move. The terrorist commanders may have been hiding under a rock on the other side of the planet, but the terrorist operatives were here and ready.

Unless I am mistaken, the nominal leader of a functional and lethal global terror organization apparently just gave an order to the longtime head of its WMD network to launch an attack on the United States and/or its global interests outside of Iraq.

And instead of generating a national alert, it seems to have provoked nothing more than a collective yawn.

"UK al-Qaeda Suspect Convicted: Badat's Surprise Guilty Plea"
Channel 4 News ^ | 3/1/05 | Unknown

Posted on 03/01/2005 4:54:10 AM PST by Coop

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Terror suspect Saajid Badat has become the first al-Qaeda suspect to be convicted in Britain.

Badat had trained as a suicide bomber in Afghanistan and Pakistan and had conspired with Richard Reid, the British man who became known as the shoe-bomber, to blow up an aircraft.

Badat had been preparing to attack – he had booked a flight to the United States, via Amsterdam. At the Old Bailey today he admitted that he had conspired to put an explosive device on a plane in the months after September 11 2001.

The 25-year-old said he had been given the training and the bomb in Afghanistan. The conviction comes the government tries to get its controversial anti-terrorist laws through parliament without compromise.

Badat was arrested at his home in Gloucester in November 2003...

Police said that components of shoe bombs were found in Badat's home at the time of his British arrest and that “those components were found to be substantially similar to those in Reid’s shoe bombs".

In fact the two devices were identical - even the detonating cord on both had been cut from the same roll.

But Badat changed his mind and dismantled his own shoe bomb, which was designed to evade airport security, Richard Horwell, prosecuting, told the Old Bailey..."
