PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: It's snowing in Washington today. The President and First Lady attended St. John's Church this morning before heading back to the White House to continue monitoring events in Iraq.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
In great numbers, and under great risk, Iraqis have shown their commitment to democracy. By participating in free elections, the Iraqi people have firmly rejected the anti-democratic ideology of the terrorists. They have refused to be intimidated by thugs and assassins. And they have demonstrated the kind of courage that is always the foundation of self-government.
Some Iraqis were killed while exercising their rights as citizens. We also mourn the American and British military personnel who lost their lives today. Their sacrifices were made in a vital cause of freedom, peace in a troubled region, and a more secure future for us all.
On behalf of the American people, I congratulate the people of Iraq on this great and historic achievement.
President George W. Bush, speaking to the American people from the White House today.

***A dear friend once told me kindness could not ever be repaid. It must be passed on to others.***
I like the idea of passing it on to others . . . it's how we all should live. You never know when a small act of kindness makes a huge difference in someone's life--I know they have in mine.
I like Lieberman too. More Dims should take after him. They just don't get that it's OK to have differing opinions, but they should still try to compromise, to get along.
RE: Kerry believing what he says . . . and Kennedy and Pelosi, and Clinton too . . . I think they do believe what they say, but they don't realize they're from such a different world than the rest of us, so their thoughts/feelings/beliefs just simply don't apply in our worlds.
***When people like Kerry say something is bad for the world, they probably believe themselves to be sincere. If they knew themselves well enough, what they really mean is "This isn't good for me, so it's a bad thing for the world." People like that can never see beyond themselves.***
They can't see beyond themselves and their little elite world, which is sooooo different from the world of the REST of us!
***George W. Bush understands that the office he holds is not about him and his immense respect for it, is what helps him handle his day to day responsibilities as the POTUS. His steadfast belief in personal liberty is what makes up his belief in an ownership society here in the U.S. It's his belief in freedom is what shapes his foreign policy, and through Grace, he finds the strength to make it happen***
Worth repeating Mike!
He never will mention he had anything to do with it. He knows he had *something* to do with it, but he always remembers all the other people who had (in his mind) even more to do with it. Tho we know without his fearless, consistent leadership, none of it would have happened, and continue to happen, according to God's will.
***I'm so grateful we have a President who is guided by convictions, who does what he knows is right, and who ignores the naysayers and the defeatists. Naysayers and defeatists have never contributed anything positive to history. Pres. Bush can continue doing what he knows is right, and can ignore his opponents, and he should. The left has never supported a person of true principle, so they don't know the power of conviction and courage. I read recently that the "establishment" in Washington still doesn't really know or understand George W. Bush. I don't think they have within themselves the capability to understand a person of integrity, principle, and dedication to what is right.***
Worth repeating! These are great thoughts, said much better than I could have. Thanks for sharing them. :-)
He has delusions of grandeur, thinking *he* is the solution to all the problems of the world.
Happy Monday--hope you're having a good day!
Hey, you have FRmail.
I'm going to lose my mind today!
A little off the subject here, but everyone is always so helpful . . . I'm researching appliances for our new home and just wondered if anyone has a Maytag-Neptune Drying Center. Besides the "regular" dryer on the bottom, it has a cabinet on the top, with shelves (or a rod) so you can dry sweaters, delicates, etc., or hang up shirts and dry them hung up.
We're going to get a good deal buying several appliances so tho it's more than a regular dryer it won't be that much more. Is it worth it?
Thanks for any help you can give me!
I was just going to check on you . . .
Why would a man put everything on the line for freeing a people a world away...staying stone faced and stubborn through it all....his belief in Jesus Christ.
It has been quite a morning!
How are you doing?
FRmail to you will explain it all!
Kerry's disparaging comments yesterday on "Meet the Press" were a regurgitation of what he was saying in the presidential campaign. Hasn't he noticed that things took a huge leap forward Sunday in Iraq?! His naysaying was rejected by the majority in November, and his commentary on Iraq isn't any more relevant now than it was then. In fact, because an election has been conducted in Iraq and was wildly successful, his comments are even less relevant.
Personally, I think Kerry is in shock over his election loss. He's still campaigning. It's embarrassing seeing a person living in unreality on national TV.
My wife pointed out that Bush sticking with the Jan. 30th election date in Iraq was a very courageous thing. What if things had gone badly in Iraq this weekend, three days before the State of the Union? What could he have told congress and the nation if the elections had essentially failed? And Pres. Bush is going to Europe in three weeks...What could he have told European leaders who would likely have told him "We told you so!" had the elections been a disaster? Now, with the Iraqi people taking a step in determining their own future, in the exercise of republican government, Europe is on the defensive, and they will increasingly be compelled to support the effort there. Also, the fact that the Iraqi people are directing the course of their nation, it makes it harder to characterize our presence there as an "occupation." Clearly, we're not calling the shots like we were immediately after the fall of Saddam.
But Pres. Bush has a faith which tells him that the fact of freedom and justice in the world are not simply consistent with US principles, but are consistent with the character of God. What we all witnessed in Iraq this weekend was produced by hard work by Coalition and Iraqi forces, and by the good people of Iraq, but also by a covering of prayer. That which is prayed in alignment with the character of God will be answered affirmatively. I believe that Pres. Bush knows this, and hence he had the courage to press on with the unfolding of democracy in Iraq, and in the Middle East.
"I read recently that the 'establishment' in Washington still doesn't really know or understand George W. Bush."
My instantaneous reaction is that those of us who have supported GWB through thick and thin know him, and that's all that matters to him, I believe. Over 62,000,000 Americans can't all be wrong about this man.
I wish our lexicon had a word other than "great," because it doesn't do him justice. George W. Bush is a towering figure who is almost single-handedly shaping human events for the better as few people have ever done throughout human history.
In the interview Brian Lamb had with him, which was broadcast on C-SPAN last night, President Bush said that he considers Ronald Reagan to be his mentor. He paid tribute to his beloved parents, of course. But Ronald Reagan is the president whom GWB appears to most admire.
As the Gipper would say, well...
I could not love and admire President Reagan more than I already do. And I recognize that GWB is standing on Reagan's shoulders while carrying forward the Reagan Revolution. Nevertheless, GWB surpasses even Reagan's greatness. I don't know a higher compliment to pay our Dubya.
Watch this video if you've not already seen it...it is wonderful...Iraqi Election.
My dream is that Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, Clinton, etc. all embarass themselves sooooo much that there is absolutely no chance they'll be voted into their positions again.
