"Ending Intellectual Slavery" by Conservative author and Berkeley alumnus David Horowitz

WHEN: Thursday, February 3rd
TIME: 8 pm

WHERE: 2050 VLSB (Map)

David Horowitz will be on campus to give a speech “Ending Intellectual Slavery” which will discuss liberal indoctrination in university campuses and classrooms. Mr. Horowitz will argue that college faculty use classes as a way to inculcate their beliefs into the student population without providing the proper political balance—it will be an argument in favor of greater academic freedom. His last speech on the Berkeley campus, “The Argument Against Reparations for Slavery,” was held four years ago.

Please share the information about this event with your student group. Tickets will be handed out at 8 pm as the doors open—the event is free. No signs/obstructive objects will be allowed in and all bags will be searched. Should you have any questions, please contact Amaury Gallais at gallais@calpatriot.org.

This really bugs me. Why aren't liberal authors labeled by their idology in all of their columns?

This is not the semi-official rag of the UC Berkeley campus (which is, IIRC, The Daily Collegian). The California Patriot is a conservative publication. I imagine that they chose their words with due care, and ran the wording of the article past Horowitz himself before publishing.

But I don't know anything about it for sure. You might contact them and/or Horowitz directly for further information.

Maybe they'll be too stoned on pot to riot. As far as reparations for slavery......hogwash. There are no former slaves alive nor any of their children. At least with Holocaust victims, there are still folks alive who were in the camps. Maybe it was a legitimate topic back in 1870 or so, but not in 2005. Actually 40 acres and a mule was pretty bad compensation.

Well for one thing, we're not ashamed to be called "conservatives" whereas liberals are so ashamed of themselves, they keep coming up with new words for themselves, or new definitions for the old words.

Beserkeley Dreaming

I dreamed I was standing on a corner in Berkeley California. A mass of unwashed freakish looking beings banging drums, carrying signs, and wailing like banshees were impeding traffic and marching in my direction. The air reeked of patchouli, body odor and pot. This dream was quickly turning into a nightmare. I watched in stunned silence as these troglodytes marched past me. The unintelligible chanting and the foul stench emanating from their ranks was becoming unbearable.

Thankfully, and mercifully, I could now see the tail end of this parade of fools. The freak show had almost passed when one of these morons made the mistake of shoving a Communist Party pamphlet and a sign in my face. It didn't help that the sign read...

"We Need A Regime Change Here"

I snapped! I yanked the ungrateful punk from the crowd and punched him in the nose. The smelly freak in the Ben & Jerry's shirt slowly rose to his feet. He looked at me with bloodshot eyes and screamed - "Damn Dude! Why Did You Hit Me?"

"Because I hate you!" I replied. I told him he would have to do some soul searching to understand why I hate him and I punched him again.

With his face contorted by rage, Butter Not Bombs boy dropped his sign, raised his fists and came at me. I held out my hands before he could strike back and yelled "STOP! Remember your conflict resolution training in the Berkeley public school system. Remember that you only need to understand why I hate you, make a few changes in your behavior to appease me, give me three hugs, and then we can be friends forever. And always remember, violence only breeds more violence." I informed him that I was allowed to hit him and he couldn't strike back because it was his fault I hit him in the first place.

A smile slowly came to his face and Dazed & Confused Boy dropped his fists and said - . "You're right my brother! When attacked, I must not retaliate". Cherry Garcia started babbling something about don't bomb Iraq, racism, no blood for oil, down with Bush, not in our name...blah blah blah.

I interrupted him, smiled, and said - "Can't we all just get along?"

With that emotional plea, Puppet Boy began sobbing uncontrollably and came towards me with outstretched arms. He said - "Give me a hug man, you just need love and understanding! I believe you'll never attack me again!"

I punched him in the nose again and then I woke up. Time to go to work.

The regular student paper there is the Daily Californian (website: www.dailycal.org). This seems to be from an unofficial conservative paper.

Shouldn't that be "Berserkeley?"
In Norse folklore a "berserker" was one of a class of warriors who in battle were siezed with a frenzy, howled, bit their shields, foamed at the mouth, and were believed invulnerable.
Apart from the final phrase, one is reminded of Kennedy, the Duke of Chappaquiddick (sp?).

Conflict resolution, leftist model-

Peace, through appeasement.

Conflict resolution, conservative model-

Peace, through strength.

Unholy Alliance
by David Horowitz
Regnery Publishing, Inc.; ISBN: 089526076X
Hardcover - 256 pages (September 2004)

In this tour de force on the most important issue of our time, David Horowitz, confronts the paradox of how so many Americans, including the leadership of the Democratic Party, could turn against the War on Terror. He finds an answer in a political Left that shares a view of America as the “Great Satan” with America’s radical Islamic enemies. This Left, which once made common cause with Communists, has now joined forces with radical Islam in attacking America’s defenses at home and its policies abroad. From their positions of influence in the university and media culture, leftists have defined America as the “root cause” of the attacks against it. In a remarkable exploration of the “Mind of the Left,” Horowitz traces the evolution of American radicalism from its Communist past to its “anti-war” present. He then shows how this Left was able to turn the Democratic Party presidential campaign around and reshape its views on the War on Terror.

Horowitz’s Unholy Alliance, writes John Haynes, the noted historian of American Communism, “is an insightful, brilliant examination of the mental world of the radical left. Horowitz shows how today’s radicals, unwilling to reflect on the internal flaws that destroyed Marxism-Leninism from within, have embraced an all-consuming nihilism in its place. This has led them to a hatred of American institutions and a solidarity with Islamic terrorists that makes the radical left more properly regarded as dangerous than loony.”

Unholy Alliance is an eye-opening book that should unsettle conventional assumptions and reveals why intellectuals and political leaders who applaud Michael Moore are no laughing matter. As Harvey Klehr, author of Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America, writes, “The world Communist movement may be moribund, but its habits of mind and ideological fantasies have not disappeared. This is a fascinating and depressing account.”

He-along with his partner, Peter Collier-have either co-written or co-edited some of the most remarkable anthologies-of political essays-published in the past decade.

Currently, I'm reading "The Anti-Chomsky Reader", which comprehensively and meticulously dissects each and every specious argument put forth by this "intellectual crook" over the past four decades.

They might even have copies in paperback, by now.

It was published a little under three years ago.
