Every Star Trek series that came after Captain James T. Kirk was a cheap, politically-correct knock-off.

Give it a few years rest - someone will come back with a new Star Trek series or feature film. The permanent fan base is too large for Hollywood executives to ignore for long.

Since Sean Twist is from the UK he probably hasn't even seen the Third and Fourth Seasons to Enterprise (which ROCKED!!) and he thinks his tastes is the only one that matters.
To: quidnunc
Okay, so he hates Star Trek. I continue to like Star Trek despite some stomach turning moments (e.g. the first season or so of Next Generation - blech). I also like Godzilla movies, anime, and other forms of Sci-Fi.

'Enterprise' was supposed to be the predecessor to The Original Series, and, as it nears its conclusion, it's apparent that on that score it was a miserable failure.

well, I for one, am upset that Enterprise will end in May!
I have thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it does get a little too PC for my tastes. And sometimes they are really cheesy when they are giving out the "moral of the story" as if it's some Saturday Morning public service announcement.
But all in all, it makes me laugh. And I like to laugh. I wish it weren't being canceled. I thought it was a lot better in seasons 3 and 4. Typically, when shows get BETTER is when you want to start renewing contracts, not canceling them. But I guess the masses do not share my assessment of the show :(

Start watching the new Battlestar Galactica series. I've seen a lot of sci fi shows and this is the BEST series I have ever seen.
Edward James Olmos makes a better Commander Adama than even Lorne Greene.

I think the latest series was finally hitting it's stride. Too bad it has been cancelled. I particularly like the interspecies relationships developing in the latest episodes, that predate the formation of the Federation. The Vulcan revolution was interesting. You have to love the Andorians. The actors were quite fun to watch.

I shall miss "Enterprise". I thought it was the best Trek since "Next Generation", and this year, I was looking forward to seeing how the Federation came together. I even had hopes more aliens (read Andorrians) would join the crew. UPN screwed this show royally. An island of Sci-Fi. in the middle of a sea of inane comedies and REALLY dumb reality shows, and then they move it to Friday night against a powerhouse lineup on Sci-Fi. I HOPE somebody picks it up. Maybe Sci-Fi could put it on on Sat. night, instead of those TRULY horrible and cheesy movies they run. But since they killed "Farscape", there's not much hope of that.

He's got a point, especially about the reset button. One of the things I loathed about "Nemesis" was the end, in which it was made apparent that Data's memories reside in his sweetly retarded android brother. In other words, his character's death is about as meaningless as it gets.

I did not like the first 2 seasons, however last years and this years have been great. Never Liked Voyager or Deep Space 9. Neither of those Captains fit the part, and Voyagers crew was a joke. Will be sad to see it go, but I would be willing to bet Sci-Fi channel picks it up and does some new episodes.
Of course I also felt the same way when Sci-Fi was going to nix Stargate and the Outer Limits. Also just found out that CBS owns Paramount TV, when did that happen?

You hate Star Trek and I love it! For most of my life there has been some version of it as a TV series. I'm heart broken that Star Trek: Enterprise has been cancelled.

While flipping through the cable channels a couple of hours ago I stumbled onto a show I hadn't seen in nearly 40 years. Remember 'Time Tunnel'? I only wonder now why I didn't realize then just how bad that show was?

I saw an old SNL re-run on cable where Shatner was on and went off on a Trekkie convention ending with an over-wrought "People...GET A LIFE!!!"
Definitely one of the funniest things I ever saw....

I love all forms of sci-fi. From Star Wars and Star Trek to sci-fi anime (especially cyber-punk style animie such as Ghost in the Shell) to comedy (Spaceballs) and sleepers (Supernova, Event-Horizon, Pitch Black).

Loved the original - it was original after all! - but each successive incarnation has been another step down in quality. Jonah Goldberg wrote a great piece on the evolution of STAR TREK, from the original 'boldly going where no man has gone before' to VOYAGER, where the touchy-feely Janeway is simply trying to find her way home. Sigh.

Voyager killed it for me. I loved TOS & despite being a purist, finally grew to really enjoy TNG, too. When I was a kid I'd spend hours drawing various versions of the Enterprise, etc. Then came DS9. It was not a *bad* show, it just was a different setting, suffering from a distinct deficit of actual trekking. But it had some great characters like Odo, Kira and O'Brien so I watched it pretty faithfully.
Then came Voyager. *GAG* The captain was an idiot. Way to much angsty introspection, too little no-nonsense problem-solving. The best character wasn't even alive (the Doctor). I only watched bits and pieces of episodes after the first 3 or so, and it didn't look like it got any better.
Consequently, I lost my taste for Star Trek and didn't even give Enterprise a chance.
