Im not entirely sure whether the Indian AF pilot you have shown is a Gurkha-a lot of Indian pilots come from the North-east of the country or West Bengal & ethnically have no differences with the Gurkhas.Gurkhas have always preferred to be land warriors.

Gurkhas could show the terrorists in Iraq a thing or two about beheading.

My constant and recurring question is WHY these bad boys do not return to fight for their own country ???? I feel there is little doubt that the well trained Gurkhas serving in both UK and Indian Armies and those serving as 'private contractors' and security guards could whip the Mao boys hands down , and it wouldn't take long. When the recruiters from the UK Army show up Nepali mountain boys turn up in great numbers for the chance to compete for the selection process. Few are chosen.
It's about the vast salary and other long term benefits that they can expect from employ in these foreign Armies , money that makes it back home to the mountain villages of Nepal and keeps their families alive and well.
BUT...if the Maoists succeed and win this fight , what good will all the money be? Or all the tea in China for that matter . The Gurkhas homeland and home villages will be lost to years and years of deepest Maoist repression. They need to forget the wages and COME HOME and take up the fight to end the Maoist scourge in Nepal once and for all . If they do not, all will be lost...guaranteed

I believe they still have the tradition that they never sheathe their kukri knives until they have blood on them--so they cut themselves a little bit before they put the knife up.
They were traditionally mercenaries for the British Empire. I think we should hire a few divisions for our war on terror in the Middle East.

While I doubt the truth of this, I've always like to think it was true:
During the conflict between Malaysia and Indonesia in 1964, a group of Gurkha soldiers from Nepal were asked if theyd be willing to jump from transport planes into combat if the need arose. Having never been trained as paratroopers, the Gurkhas were given freedom to turn down the request. On this occasion, the legendary warriors said NO. The next day one of their officers sought out the British commander and said theyd thought further and would make the jump under certain conditions: We will jump if the land is marshy or has no big rocks on it. We ask that the plane fly as slowly as possible and no more than 100 feet high. Thats impossible, the British officer replied. The planes have to fly higher than 100 feet or there wont be enough time for the parachutes to open. "Oh," said the Gurkha leader, you didn't mention parachutes before! We'll jump with parachutes anywhere."

My brother-in law died in action, fighting Pakistani insurgency in Kashmir. He belonged to the 1/11 Gurkha Regiment of the Indian Army.

My father has a jeweled Gurkha knife given him by the commander of the troops guarding the airbase.
One day, he may tell me why he was given it.

Also Indian Army has the largest number of Gurkhas serving anywhere in the world. Even more than the Royal Nepal Army or the British Army. The Muslim insurgents piss in their pants when they see the Gurkhas charging at them with their shining khukris held high above their heads.

The Gurkhas do not need to be in Iraq , nor in Afghanistan , they do not need to be guarding office buildings and private homes in Hong Kong , nor the Sultan of Brunei . They do not need to be training in Belize or Hawaii. They are not crucial
for NATO . But they ARE crucial right now for Nepal. The Gurkha homeland could very well be the next Communist state
in this world if the tide is not turned and soon. UK and India
should imagine their resource of Gurkhas disappearing as the Maoist will never allow this recruitment. Imagine instead this holy terror of the kukri wielding commandos commanded by the Maoists ! Families of Gurkhas outside will be held hostage and the Gurkhas could be forced to do their bidding.
This is indeed Nepal Darkest Hour , it's best and most effective native sons are needed at home , now! Yesterday!
It behooves the UK and India to do everything to facilitate this for a time. The King of Nepal should put out the call:
" For King and Country all Gurkhas please Come Home! "
The need will not last forever , but the need is there urgently now . Very very urgent...not the time to dither and debate.

I'd heard a variation of the story, too, and told it to my ladyfriend who was guarded by Gurkhas while she was in Iraq last month. She sure thought they were likable folks.

I don't see the heorics in binding up an animal and then cutting his head off. That seems like something a POS Islamists would do.

Ghurkas are the third-world equivalent to SEALS -- or, actually, more likely -- Special Forces. Nepal, whether is a Third World Country or not is not the issue. However, it is world known that the Gurkha's are the absolute killing machines bar none.
Nepal takes great pride in advertising the Gurkha's based on it's History as the Ultimate Warriors trained in all aspects of War Combat.
A particular of Gurkha's is that they do not take prisoners (like the Yugoslav's in WW II).
When they are done, everybody is toast.
Great Britain has a division of them.
I do not wish anyone to be there and meet them fellows under war conditions.
