A Way to Save Terri Schiavo
wotan | Feb 18, 2005 | wotan

Posted on 02/18/2005 6:25:20 AM PST by wotan

Here's a way Jeb Bush may be able to save Terry Schiavo: Open an investigation into the possible assault that led to her comatose condition. Have the state pay for her maintenance to "preserve the evidence" and pay for language therapy for her so she can tell us what she knows about how she got into the coma. It struck me that the reason her husband wants her dead might be because he's afraid of what she'll say if she recovers. I don't see how a judge could possibly deny the state the right to preserve evidence of a serious assault.

Hope she's not dead yet.

He doesn't want to change his mind, and he doesn't want anyone finding out that he has let Michael get away with neglect of a disabled person among other things.

Precisely.

What is particularly loathsome about this case is that Terri's misery is caused by Michael, Felos, and Greer. She would actually have a pleasant life if she were allowed to live with her parents. She seems to have some concept that there are people who are nice to her that she likes, as distinct from other people who are not nice to her. Even if she was never able to understand 95% of what's going on in the world, if she were with her parents she could enjoy the warm breeze of an April afternoon as she listened to birds singing in the park. Although I would certainly hope that her condition would improve considerably with therapy, I don't think it would have to improve much if at all to allow her a pleasant existence if she were freed from the monster who, when convenient, claims to be her husband.

I like your last line especially. It's worth repeating! Michael is a monster, but claims to be Terri's husband only when it's convenient for him.

He might change his mind if he saw how alive she really is.

NOT A CHANCE: the man is a demon masquerading as a "Republican" and a "Baptist."

Theresa will always remain in an unconscious, reflexive state, totally dependent upon others to feed her and care for her most private needs (emphasis added).

So, what? Nevertheless, her parents want to care for her at home, and they can do so. A feeding tube is a simple, simple device to operate. Even a ten-year-old could figure it out.

I am really glad you checked back in to her story. It's a roller coaster ride around here. One of the things that keeps prodding me along is that Terri herself hasn't given up the fight. She's an amazing woman with an amazing family.

Michael's lust for control over another human being will eventually take its toll on him. If he succeeds in killing Terri, I have no doubt that he will have to feed his ego some other way. Terri's death won't even be enough for him. He'll want more and more until he consumes himself. He'll go after some new prey.

When Terri had the feeding tube put in - it was for convenience - not because she needed it.

Her husband/guardian thought it was too expensive to pay staff the extra money to feed her and he decided that the feeding tube should be used instead.

"She is NOT going to ever recover or learn speak. CAT scans have revealed SHE HAS NO BRAIN!!!! just a couple of shriveled masses where most of here brain should be. If you people are so compassionate, put yourself in HER bed and tell me what your widhes would be."

I would prefer a natural death, NOT DEATH BY STARVATION.
Natural death occurs when ones respirations cease, the heart stops and the EEG waves are flat.
And I beg to differ with you that she has "no brain". If this were true, she wouldn't be able to breathe on her own. The base of the brain controls breathing. Therefore, she IS NOT brain dead!

One can see your transparent agenda when you give immediate credence to a poster making a preposterous statement that Terri has "NO BRAIN" by inquiring about the CT scan and then nitpic me when I state that as she was described by that poster she would require a vent. Normally a person with "NO BRAIN" would require a vent to live, sorry.

"Another tactic: if she's "dead" already (in the husband's opinion), sue for wrongful death and put the would be murderers on the defensive."

Good point.

Also sue Greer for wrongful death. He'd have to recuse himself then, wouldn't he?

Dr. Hammesfahr said the brain scan was 75% of normal size. An improvement from a previous scan he said.

>>At this point, much of her cerebral cortex is simply gone and has been replaced by cerebral spinal fluid.

You're just repeating crap Mikey's "I'll testify to anything you want for the right price" doctor said.

Actually Terri has water on the brain, (hypoxic encephalopathy), and a crushed disk in her neck. The 2002 exam by the neurologist, who had seen hundreds of cases like these, had never seen BOTH conditions in one patient before except one other time, and that was in a strangulation case.

The fluid pressure is pushing down on her brain, making it easy for Felos to rig her x-rays to look all black. The attempted-murderers in New Jersey once said the same thing about Karen Ann Quinlan, but after she finally died a decade later, her autopsy proved her cortex was normal.

Now answer me this Melas... If Terri is even the tiniest bit responsive, and if she can never get any better, and if her parents WANT to care for her for the rest of her life as-is, AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE, then why should THAT bother you?

Documented Terri-vocabulary references
Words Witness
"mommy"
"momma"
"help me"
nurse - Heidi Law, certified nurse assistant
"pay"     (meaning 'pain'
                when she was in discomfort)
'Haaaiiiii'   (meaning Hi,
                in response to 'Hi Terri')
'mommy'
'help me'
Nurse - Carla Sauer Iyer, R.N.

"'Help me' was, in fact, one of her most frequent
utterances. I heard her say it hundreds of times."
"stop"   (in response to one medical
                procedure being done on her)
Terri's MediPlex records
"ugh-hugh" (meaning yes)
"ugh-ugh" (meaning no)
"yea"
"No"
family members.

'yea' was a word she reportedly first re-learned to speak in 2002.

If anyone can recall other specific references please let me know

Photos of Terri AFTER her 'accident' (but BEFORE the malpractice award )
Mikey used to allow Terri to be dressed up and taken to the Mall
Mikey was proving to the jury how responsive Terri is...
Mikey used to take Terri outside in a wheelchair...
Now, Mikey doesn't allow Terri outside, ever!
and won't let her have even a DONATED wheelchair

Question: Do these 2002 pics look like a Permanent Vegetative State? From "Terri Big Eyes" video available at www.terrisfight.org

Terri starts out apparently asleep. A doctor wakes her to start his tests.

Doctor: Terri. Open your eyes up...

Terri: (Startled at hearing her name. She starts moving her mouth and fluttering her eyes, like a person who is just waking up)

Doctor: Open your eyes, Terri open your eyes

Terri: (slowly at first, Terri struggles to open her eyes, then turns toward the doctor, and opens her eyes a normal amount)

Doctor: There you go, good.

Terri: (then, either to show off(?) or wanting to perform well, she leans further forward toward the doctor, looks straight at him and opens her eyes as WIDE AS SHE CAN. Note the WRINKLES ACROSS HER FOREHEAD caused by her also RAISING HER EYEBROWS as high as possible )

Doctor: [now obviously impressed] GOOD!! GOOD JOB! GOOD JOB YOUNG LADY! Good Job.

Another tactic: if she's "dead" already (in the husband's opinion), sue for wrongful death and put the would be murderers on the defensive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain Michael introduced evidence in the malpractice trial to show that Terri wasn't PVS. Therefore, if she became PVS, she did so while under his care. It'd be nice if the coroner could suggest that that seems suspicious enough to merit an autopsy in the case of Terri Schiavo, notwithstanding the husband's wishes to the contrary (IIRC, the coroner has absolute authority to demand an autopsy, and judges are explicitly denied the authority to refuse).

If Michael believed that he'd have too great a likelihood of getting caught if Terri's killed, he might decide it was better to avoid a murder rap.

Absolutely right. When it benefited his story, he'd say that Terri's experimental surgery worked, but once he got the money, he says she's hopeless.

Right. So either he's a liar, or he's the cause of Terri's current condition, or (most likely) both.

I have no agenda. None. None at all. I simply searched "Schiavo CAT scan" with GOOGLE after reading the initial claim. It only takes a minute to find the information.
