Soldier Hanged in Effigy Prompts "Support the Troop" Candlelight Vigil - THE PICTURES

"Support Our Troops"
Candlelight Vigil

This week Move America Forward conducted a "Support the Troops" candlelight vigil across from the home of Steve & Virginia Pearcy.

The Pearcy's you will recall hanged a U.S. soldier in effigy - from a noose with an American flag balled up in the soldier's helmet - above the Iraqi flag of Saddam Hussein as part of their anti-war protest. In the adjacent window they hanged the Palestinian flag.

Despite pouring rain for most of the three hour vigil, several hundred people from northern California turned out to show that Free Speech works both ways - the Pearcy's do not own a monopoly on it, and free speech includes the right to oppose offensive displays that undermine the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Mark Williams of KFBK 1530 - Sacramento and Deborah Johns of Northern California Marine Moms for helping Move America Forward make this event a success.

I hope you enjoy the pictures from the "Support The Troops Candlelight Vigil" - Tuesday, February 15, 2005 from 7:00 - 10:00 PM Pacific.

You & I both. Funny how the first amendment cuts both ways, isn't it?

BTW, that was just wishful thinking on my part. I did see that it was an evening event, I'm sure out of respect for the decent neighbors.

The news of the American soldier hanged in effigy in front of an Iraqi flag made it to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. How do you think that made them feel while they are defending our freedoms?

Thankfully, hundreds of people braved the rain and storm to get out there and show their support for our troops and the war on terrorism. They stood up to the stupid people that put up the display.

I am sure that word will travel just as fast through the men and women in Iraq. They will know that the vast majority of Americans are behind them.

Having a few hundred people protest outside my house would tend to freak me out.

With you being a Falls Churcher, I'm surprised that didn't happen when you put the Bush/Cheney sign on the roof!

That's how the neighbors felt when this couple decided to create a media firestorm by using a house they don't even reside in (they live in Berkeley... this is a weekend home in Sacramento) to make a political protest like this.

The neighbors have been disgusted by the Pearcy's - not just for their offensive views but their rude neighborly conduct.

Neighbors from up and down the block were at the vigil and we had several offer to let us use their house to stage the event. So we based ourselves in front of a house directly across the street after asking the residents if it was OK.

The family had the American flag displayed on their house and not only were they accomodating they joined us throughout the evening as did most of the other neighbors in the immediate area.

We are still cleaning up the candlewax from their sidewalk, however! *feels ashamed*

You may not have heard about the latest!

DU Dummies are organizing phone operatives to call Dish Net and any other network that carry the new DOD military channel specifically designed to give military families news and info on their guys and gals.

DU nutwads are calling and lodging complaints that it is government propaganda.

The Pearcys are a weird and sick couple. KTXL-40 in Sacramento ran a story the other night about how a group of college girls renting a home owned by the Pearcys were harassed for their political views by their landlords. During the election, the renters had put a Bush-Cheney yard sign in one of the windows facing the street. Steve Pearcy responded by putting up Saddam's Iraqi flag on the house, and took some other childish actions in response to the Bush sign. The girls renting the house eventually requested to get out of the lease because they felt intimidated and persecuted for their political beliefs. In an emailed statement to KTXL, Pearcy simply said the renters had left the house because they petitioned to be let out of their lease.

I saw footage of an opposing demonstration outside the Pearcy's home over the effigy, and the Pearcy's eventually emerged to speak with the press. Both have that vacant, faux "inner peace" look in their eyes...the kind of look you see when looking at someone who is sold over to some crackpot cult. The Pearcy's are not just leftists, not just weirdos -- they're scary.
