I don't grok your Albatross allusion if it means Terri. How can they "let it fly away"?

Let her live with her parents.

Agreed. And he can't choose any other option offered by the Schindlers at this point because he has already made committments with the biggies in euthanasia that he cannot change his mind on. Like $pecial agreement$.

My first reaction to seeing something like this would be that someone pro-euth skewed the study, not that legions of patients suddenly got suicide sugarplums dancing in their heads just because it became a little easier.

The coming Baby Boom Generation's dying years will have a huge economic impact and I was referring to this dilemma when I said, "there has been a failure to protect the elderly as the costs of live-saving medical procedures have gone through the roof and exceed what their Medicare is able to provide." How we prepare for the needs of our aging population will be where the web of evil is spun. What I anticipate is that there will be little preparation for these costs because the intention is to force the euthanasia option upon the unfortunate ones caught between the rock and the hard place. There will be no decency about it. There will be a death culture that wants the elderly to go quick so they will be no more trouble and out of the way. This thinking will then work it way to those who put a greater economic impact on the health care system: the physically and mentally disabled.

Yes. It was a palliative care journal. They are making their own data to support their care for more killings, I mean assisted suicides.

Alas, the courts seem to be the only thing that can "let" and they seem grimly set in their determination to usher Terri out to eternity on hubby's hearsay and whim. I can just see Greer and the SCOFLAws saying: "Albatross? What albatross?"

I have studied the Nancy Cruzan case in great detail for years and I am sure that Joe, her father, was being led down the path with both ideology and big bucks. It was a huge win for their side and then Joe commits suicide a few years later.

This was not a father who made this decision on his own or had the resources to track down former coworkers to testify from 8-10 years ago. And he certainly did not have the money to do all that court time.

Some others who reek of payoffs to me are Michelle Finn and Mary Martin. Big hospital bills and children to finish raising and sending to college. Enter the right to die and suddenly you're seeing two homes, and cash aplenty.
Michelle Finn goes on to become an advocate for money for those with brain injuries. She virtually creates a job for herself in this profession. And a group for her to run. Guilt?

The euthanasia that I am talking about is economically induced--the "rock and the hard place." When the Baby Boom Generation reaches it later years, it could find resources that are being stretched now, much more worse. The decent treatment of the elderly will be a thing of the past as the health care system gets stretched to its max with the aging Boomers. What is shocking is the Terri Schiavo situation is showing that there are those willing to push the euthanasia button now for reasons other than health care costs. What used to pass for murder may become commonplace and legal. What I fear are the relatives pressuring poor souls to a early death for expediency that is being aggravated by dwindling health care resources. There may come a time when, without the patient's knowledge, a doctor will put a lethal dose in the intravenous connection due to behind the scenes actions of the relatives. Once that time comes, anyone could be victims of the death doctor's drip.

We have to put a stop to this barbarity before that horse rides out the door.

I think we can all agree no opinions are formed in a vacuum. Whether by religious convictions or based upon science (which doesn't necessarily mean pro euthanasia or abortion*) we make our judgments based upon our perceptions of previous events.
I don't know how many of you recall the Karen Ann Quinlan case in NJ of the late 1970's/early 1980's. Make a long story short, this young lady went to a party, ingested drugs and alcohol, and slipped into a coma. Her parents allowed her soul to be replaced by machinery. For eight years, her parents were tortured by beholding the sight of "their little girl" wasting away in a hospital bed, while people who didn't have a rat's ass of right, bring claim after claim to court on Karen's "behalf". Just as bad, if not worse than the judges who would have her feeding tube removed, the judges in NJ gave these people standing in court. The people who fought "so valiantly" on her behalf couldn't give a tinker's damn about this girl as an individual. She was bait for the cause.
Well, when she was finally removed from life support a miracle happened! No, she didn't wake up from the coma, she continued to exist for about 8 months then died.
Needless to say, the people who "wanted to protect her rights" packed up and walked away. The family of Karen Ann Quinlan was emotionally devastated and their lives ruined. The final irony, any NJ family with an ounce of memory and a lick of sense DOES NOT put a family member on life support. Not because of a lack of compassion but rather because of whole lot of love for the family member.
Perhaps that is the event that helped formed my opinion. It's not an opinion of the husband or the family or of her condition. It's the voice of the predictable sans consequence, those who look over the fence to find a dog in the fight. ------------------------------------------------------------
* With the release of video of the 12 week old embryo with obvious human features, the debate should shift from a religious based debate to a scientific debate. If the scientific community is excited about the discover of single celled organisms in the hostile environment on Mars, they should be ecstatic about the discovery of a multicellular organism in a welcome environment. Posting of that video on every blog should be a must. THAT is how you change hearts and minds. The truth is undeniable.

One major problem has been that the only people with full access to Terri's medical records have been the ones who wanted her dead.

That's surprising to me. I would have thought her medical records would have been the first thing discoverable under these legal proceedings.

" He has said that he will issue a decision by fax Friday whether or not to continue the stay. He said he will issue his decision by fax without a hearing because he does not want another display in his courtroom such as the room that occurred Wednesday."

"The stay had been due to expire Wednesday at 5 p.m. When he announced that he was extending the stay until Friday at 5 p.m., the courtroom broke out in applause. "

Such a jerk!

This concerns me. If he orders the tube to be pulled on her on Friday after 5PM, the state legislature and Supreme Court are no longer in session.

Hope our side has a game plan to address this possiblity.

I think it would be an excellent use of the National Guard to block Michael et al from the Hospice Center, and to forcibly remove Terri to a safer location. Hope the Governor agrees!

Doubt if the governor will go that far. Here are his words yesterday:

"I can assure you, I will do whatever I can within the means, within the laws, of our state to protect this woman's life," Bush said Wednesday. "I won't go beyond that."
