Internet Fame Is Cruel Mistress for Dancer of the Numa Numa (funny video of kid singing)
NY Times ^ | 2/26/05 | ALAN FEUER and JASON GEORGE

Posted on 02/25/2005 7:50:34 PM PST by Cableguy

There was a time when embarrassing talents were a purely private matter. If you could sing the Star Spangled Banner in the voice of Daffy Duck, no one but your friends and family would ever have to know.

But with the Internet, humiliation - like everything else - has now gone public. Upload a video of yourself playing flute with your nose or dancing in your underwear and people from Toledo to Turkmenistan can watch.

Here, then, is the cautionary tale of Gary Brolsma, 19, amateur videographer and guy from New Jersey, who made the grave mistake of placing on the Internet a brief clip of himself dancing along to a Romanian pop song. Even in the bathroom mirror, Mr. Brolsma's performance could only be described as earnest but painful.

His story suggests that the quaint days when cultural trinkets, like celebrity sex tapes, were passed around like novels in Soviet Russia are over. It says a little something of the lightning speed at which fame is made these days.

To begin at the beginning:

However... it says he is only 19, and if I remember correctly, in most (if not all) states, having a beer or two with a 19 year old,

We should send him to Germany to entertain the troops. He can drink there at the age of 19.

Thanks for the ping, Lady Jag! This is great!
Thanks for posting this Cable Guy.

Gary obviously had a blast with this. He's one who feels the music and lets it take control. The eye brow twitch is priceless.
I do that too, (let the music take control) so I can identify with him..........but you'll never see it on the internet. LOL! No cameras in the vicinity when I cut loose to tunes.

This gem is bookmarked.................so I can send it to others and so I can play the song some more. Danged if I don't like it. It just feels happy. :-)

That would be an idea... But right now he's stuck in NewJersey, and he can't!

This links to a video of an American teenager lip-synching to a Romanian tune. It's a lot of fun watching - he has a lot of talent. Enjoy. :D

Thanks. Great collection of clips from one of the most quotable movies ever made.

Every event in life has a Napoleon Dynamite quote appropriate to it.

The quote for this thread is:

D-Kwon: "Are you ready to get your groove on?"

Napoleon: "Yahhssss."

Thanks for the ping bd476. That kid is really cute. We all should break down and be goofy sometimes.

On another note, isn't it nice to have the President back home without any incident?

Glad you liked it. Somehow, I think he should get a gig out of it.

Yes, it's great to have President Bush back home. The security in Bratislava, Slovakia was top notch. The Slovaks are very good friends of the USA. :D

You're welcome.

When I'm knee-deep in some mindless conference call at work, I find myself having to put the call on mute because I start to sniker uncontrollably (just like Muttley) thinking about some of N.D. scenes (the one at the end after the credits where N.D. rides up on the horse and says he's sorry for being late due to having to tame a wild honeymoon stallion... classic).

I think my favorite (today) is one that never got into the movie:

"Who's the only one here who knows secret illegal ninja moves from the government?"

That's Lorne Michaels, producer of SNL.

I agree, Mr. Brolsma has talent, rhythm and he's captivating on camera. I've watched the video several times, and I want to watch it again.
