TRENTON, N.J. -- Production of candy shaped like roadkill has come to a screeching halt. The decision, announced Friday by Kraft Foods Inc., was the result of an outcry by New Jersey animal rights activists who said the candy encouraged children to be cruel to animals.
"We take comments from our consumers really seriously and, in hindsight, we understand that this product could be misunderstood," said Kraft spokesman Larry Baumann.
Kraft plans to stop production as soon as possible and then sell off remaining inventory, Baumann said. The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy -- shaped like flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels, complete with tire treads --

Gummi candy is about the only sweet thing I don't care for, but I feel like running out and buying any remaining bags I can find just to stick them on PETA members doors. What a bunch of crybabies!
I heard this being reported on the radio yesterday morning. I have NEVER heard a reporter have SUCH a hard time keeping his composure.
It was TOO darn funny!!!
Wussies. How much power do they think PETA actually has?
Who wants to bet they show up on eBay?
Next they should come out with a fruit rollup that has smashed bugs imbedded in it like a car windshield. (My idea, my idea!)
...or smashed kerrybugs...
What's the last thing to go through the mind of the bug on your windshield?
Its a$$hole.
How about them making a greenpisser-shaped candy? After all, why not?
Encouraging voilence, huh?
Maybe they should make gummi PETA protesters
I just saw that on TV. Despite the name, those little pieces of candy hardly looked like "road kill." It's just more PC gone nuts. Courtesy of the wackos in America!!!!
lol
It is because children will be unkind to animals - oh please!!! Talk about PC gone to the extreme!
Gummy bears, or whatever, are kid friendly, even gummy worms.....
Another candy company will buy the brand from Kraft. We'll see flattened gummi armadillos in our supermarkets soon enough.
" Who wants to bet they show up on eBay?"
Already there, going for about $10.00 a bag!!!
Have these people never bitten the head off a big gummy lizard???!!
Now this has got me thinking. I might have to go run over some Peeps for the kids' Easter baskets.
Ah-HA! I KNEW there was a reason the Lefties were targeting Kraft! They're owned by Altria, which used to be Phillip Morris, the Big Tobacco peeps. I'm thinking Kraft was avoiding a PETA lawsuit based on advice from their lawyers because Kraft and Altria have deep, deep, DEEP pockets.

"In the United States, Kraft or Kraft subsidiary brand foods can be found in 99% of households. Altria is the parent company of Kraft."
But still; they caved. That's not good. :(
