The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Threat Matrix - Daily Terrorism Threat

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida
Full Story

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

not sure if this has been posted yet ... turns out this poor guy was falsely accused.

COLUMBUS (AP) - A woman was arrested Monday on charges she falsely told the FBI that her estranged husband was plotting to bomb the U.S. and Saudi embassies in London.

Kadrah Farah Ali, 42, was taken into custody at her home in Columbus.

Last month, according to the allegations, Ali reported to the FBI that her husband, Osman Yusef Dirie, told her that he and four Moroccans were going to bomb the embassies.

The FBI notified the CIA and British authorities. They interviewed Dirie in England, where he lives, but did not charge or arrest him.

Ali later told officials that she made up the story to hurt Dirie, who she said married her to become a U.S. citizen, the FBI said.

Both are originally from Somalia, but Ali is an American citizen, the FBI said. If convicted, she could get up to five years in prison.

That is sad JellyJam.
If she filed a false report; she needs prison time.

Weak immigration laws let in terrorists

In answer to your question, it's in a Scottish newspaper because the Scots acknowledge the problem. We haven't done that yet. We hint at the possibililty, but our media refrains from taking an pro-active stance and pressing for certifiable action from the powers that be to correct it. Instead we pander to corporations, small businesses and farmers who profit by low wages and no benefits whatsoever by hiring the countless illegals who fill their needs. The government turns a blind eye to these same "employers" who pay cash under the table to illegals to avoid tax payments to the government. No payroll taxes = more profits!

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Mon Apr 11 2005 22:58:31 GMT-0700.

YEMEN

April 08, 2005

This Travel Warning is being issued to warn U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel to Yemen at this time and inform them that the Department of State has authorized the departure of dependents and non-emergency personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa on a voluntary basis.  This supersedes the Travel Warning for Yemen issued on November 16, 2004.

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel to Yemen.  The security threat to all U.S. citizens in Yemen remains high due to terrorist activities in Yemen.  The Department is concerned about possible attacks by extremist individuals or groups against U.S. citizens, facilities, businesses and perceived interests and therefore has authorized the voluntary departure from Yemen of non-emergency personnel and eligible family members.  From time to time the Embassy may temporarily close or suspend public services for security reasons.  Emergency assistance to U.S. citizens during non-business hours (or when public access is restricted) is available through Embassy duty personnel.

U.S. citizens in Yemen should exercise caution and take prudent measures to maintain their security.  Maintain a high level of vigilance, avoid crowds and demonstrations, keep a low profile, vary times and routes for all travel, and ensure travel documents are current.  U.S. citizens who remain in or travel to Yemen despite this Travel Warning should register at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa and enroll in the warden system (emergency alert network) in order to obtain updated information on travel and security in Yemen.  This can also be done online at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs.

The Embassy in Sanaa advises American citizens in Yemen to exercise particular caution at locations frequented by foreigners country-wide and at restaurants and hotels frequented by expatriates.  Americans who believe they are being followed or threatened while driving in urban centers should proceed as quickly as possible to the nearest police station or major intersection and request assistance from the officers in the blue-and-white police cars stationed there.  Occasionally, U.S. Government personnel in Yemen may be prohibited from traveling to sections of Sanaa or other parts of Yemen.  The Yemeni government also restricts travel to specified areas by U.S. citizens and other Westerners from time to time.  Travelers should be in contact with the Embassy for up-to-date information on such restrictions.

The U.S. Embassy is located at Dhahr Himyar Zone, Sheraton Hotel District, P.O. Box 22347.  The telephone number of the Consular Section is (967)(1) 755-2266.  The fax number is (967)(1) 303-175.  The after hours emergency number is (967)(1) 755-2170.

Additional information on registering with the Embassy can be found at http://usembassy.state.gov/yemen/citizen_services.html.
Current information on travel and security in Yemen may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States, or, from overseas, 1-202-501-4444.  U.S. citizens should consult the Consular Information Sheet for Yemen, the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement, and the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement on the Department's Internet site at http://travel.state.gov.  Up-to-date information on security conditions can also be accessed at http://usembassy.state.gov/yemen/citizen_services.html.
