It was in one of her earlier rants, maybe the one where she also said that "she was picking up bullets by the handful off the car seat..." after she was wounded.

In Italy...especially in the south, where the Mafia rules...if the cops stage a road block and you approach at a high speed...they will fire. This is rare...but it does happen.

I think you have properly summarized the affair. She lets herself get captured, makes a video to try to give some leverage to get the Italian troops pulled out, allows the terrorists to get ransom money, and gets an Italian official killed. All for the sake of promoting her own warped view of reality. This woman is a truly dangerous, crazy person.

I was watching coverage of this incident as I sat in the airport enroute to Rome for a week. The commie newspaper at the hotel had a big spread on it. The local TV and radio stations put more emphasis on the funeral. My wife and I walked past the building where the funeral took place. There were flowers all over the front steps and the flags were at half mast. Aside from those "on the ground" observations, the local Italians didn't seem overly engrossed in the story.

My hotel was two blocks from the Gemelli hospital. The pope was hauled up there again while we were at the hotel. Ambulances passed the hotel on a fairly frequent basis. Frankly, I'm happy to be home after a week in Rome. Interesting place to visit. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.
