I think understand what you are trying to say, not to give up hope on anything because things change. I argue the same thing myself, that Christianity has changed and so can Islam. I think that the problem is that the fundamentalist Muslims don't want change. Most of the Muslims I have met in America abandon their faith when no longer forced to participate. It is really a rather sad excuse for a religion when you read the Koran and study it's history. I am not sure where it can go in it's evolution except to some sort of watered down Islam lite. As to Malcolm X being a leader, he was a interesting person but was as bigoted and ignorant as the younger George Wallace but in reverse. I enjoyed a record I had many years ago of some speeches that he made. He really didn't lead people anywhere but he was a devil's advocate of the first waters.

The Salem witch trials had less than NOTHING to do with Puritanism. And FWIW,Salem's witch trials were not even the biggest ones in colonial America;just the best known. Congregationalists had them too.

Witch trials and far worse, were begun but the Catholic church against other Christians;fellow Catholic included, and to Jews and Muslims and atheists.

The Roman Catholic church even put animals on trial and burned them at the stake.

All of which is quite beyond the point of this discussion.

"THE SCARLETT LETTER" is about adultery.

Oliver Cromwell was NOT lenient with Protestant Christians of other sects, and ruined Christmas.

Quakers were EXPELLED from the Mass.Bay colony, founded Rhode Island, and you can;t equate 17th century behavior to 21rst century barbarity of the Islamocrazies.

"I believe she was betrothed at 14, conceived Christ at 14 1/2 and gave birth at 15."

It seems to me that that was what the nuns taught me about 100 years ago, but my memory isn't what it used to be. That age level would be about right, even perhaps a year old for the times. Sorry I can't be more help. Its never been a real big question for me. :)

Malcolm X was a great leader? How so?

Read The Autobiography of Malcolm X and find out.

Lauralee, I was around to see Malcolm X assassinated by our own African-American versions of early (mid 60s) Islamic Fundamentalists. So Malcolm may have been an early martyr, in the Islamic sense, but that doesn't make him a great leader. He was a very interesting, bold and complex man, all the more so because he transformed himself from a pimp, criminal and numbers runner into a serious person.
I was around at the time, about as old as you are according to your profile, and it was a very compelling "either/or" choice offered between Malcolm and MLK. Lots of armchair revolutionary Liberal guiltomaniacs preferred Malcolm, for obvious reasons. But neither does that make him a great leader. BTW, I know that he shifted his positions , as you put it, "in his later years", but it would be better put, "in his later YEAR", because he really wasn't around as a personality for very long at all.
King was known in the fifties as a leader, and outlived Malcolm by more than two years.

"""The Salem witch trials had less than NOTHING to do with Puritanism.""

Right uh hu.

""And FWIW,Salem's witch trials were not even the biggest ones in colonial America;just the best known.""

I know that. But since that's the best known example I used it.

""Congregationalists had them too.""

Congregationists were a sect of Puritans.

Christianity has done countless amazing things for the world. But people were still able to pervert it's message. Many of the people at the time were still primitive and barbaric.

Can we really expect to convert 1.3 billion people?

You've read the Koran?

I read parts of it, but they were taken out of context. You can take anything out of context really, and it can sound bad. The Koran though, is it true that there really is no sequence to it? That it's just a mess?

** Can you really convert 1.3 billion people to Christianity? Do you think 1.3 billion people should be converted? **

Jesus commanded true Christians to go into all the world and preach the gospel. Salvation is for *everyone*, not for just a few. :o)

I've read enough about Malcolm X to know he had great communist leanings, vehemently hated Jews, Christians and white people.

I was asking Laura why she considered him a great leader.

'I was asking Laura why she considered him a great leader.'

Good luck getting an answer, I am still waiting on whether she stands by her implication that Mohammed's pedophilia is equivalent to the Virgin birth of Christ.

No, you said you didn't know that Mary was 141/2 or thereabouts when she conceived, you thought she was twelve. All that was in the context of Mohammed being called a pedophile even though Mary was 12 when she conceived.

Your implication was that the two events were equivalent. As I said, you implied the Holy Spirit was a Pedophile.

Oh, and it also wasn't long ago when everyone hated the Jews.

We often say that Mohammad was a pedophile, but wasn't the virgin Mary around 12 when she was impregnated. How long did people really live back then?
