OK, folks. The Ashley Smith story is remarkable. However, too many of you are hung up on her. This is about a cold blooded quadruple killer. Who cares if she found his human side? All evil people have a "human" side. Good grief, people! FOCUS!!!

Maybe he can find God and work on his whole afterlife thing, because he'll probably get there under the GA death penalty.

She did what she had to to get the heck out of her apartment. I'd find a human side in Jeffrey Dahmer if it would mean I could escape and survive.

I'm guessing some people like or don't like this woman for something she said or didn't say.

Probably should have just made a comment on an existing thread, where people would have some idea what you are talking about.

This aspect of the story is not about him exclusively. It's about her being a stand-up Christian.

There is a little bit of Stockholm Syndrome going on, but while she doesn't hate him she knows what he is and what he has done. I just hope Ashley Smith doesn't appear in so much media coverage that I get sick of her and lose respect for what she did.

She did not find his human side. She found his gullible side. Heck, I can trick my cat into coming by using the "dinner" tone of voice. He's not human.

As another FReeper put it, it was reverse Stockholm syndrome. He bonded with her as well.

Exactly. Some people appear to be making more of this than there is.

She sounds like one calm, smart, resourceful woman!

You must be a fan of Nascar for the wrecks and hockey for the fights.

She drove with him to stash the truck with her cell phone on her seat and then gave him a ride back to her apartment.

I think this woman is a hero, but we need to remember what this guy did--killed innocent people in cold blood....not the fact that he "bonded" with his hostage and didn't kill her too. It's all they are talking about on the news today. AWWWW....a killer with a heart. Isn't that sweet.

If someone doesn't like her based on what she said or did to stay alive and safe and get to a point where he could be arrested, that's just ridiculous. By talking to him and staying calm, she not only stayed alive but also prevented him from shooting anyone else or trying to run again.
