There is NO good reason for AK-47's to be "on the streets".
(Fully prepared to be flamed for this opinion)
Probably happened in one of those rundown Norwegian neighborhoods.
Concealed carry all the way.

School Lockdown Ends, Carrick Shooter Still Loose
POSTED: 2:14 pm EST March 16, 2005
UPDATED: 3:41 pm EST March 16, 2005
PITTSBURGH -- Two people were shot -- one of them fatally -- in the Carrick section of Pittsburgh Wednesday afternoon.
Carrick shooting scene
Police said the shootings happened on Westmont Street at Santron Avenue, about one block from Carrick High School.
City school officials said Carrick High was locked down. All students remained inside until being dismissed at about 3:20 p.m.
Neither of the victims have been identified.
The shooter is still at large.
Police were looking for a late-1990s or early-2000s green or teal-colored car with a sunroof, possibly a Buick LeSabre or Buick Park Avenue. At least two black males were believed to be inside.
At least we don't have to worry about true evil like prayer in school. < /sarcasm >
The real issue is: there's no good reason for black market weapons to be on the street where criminals can get them.
There's no good reason for kids to want to kill each other gangster fashion and wreak havoc on their families.
There's no good reason for people to trash on trying to give their kids good values so they can do their own thing.
There's no good reason for undercutting teaching good values to our children.
There's no good reason for destroying our children's lives with cheap sensationalism passing off as good so that someone can make a buck.
All this is more true.
More trouble in the community.
i am from Pittsburgh originally but am having trouble placing where Carrick is, can you describe where it is to me? my college room mate is actually the principle in a Wilkinsburg H.S.
The AK-47 has committed no crime.
According to authorities, police stopped a car outside the school and were running a check on its license plate when another vehicle pulled up and started shooting at the car.

I may be wrong, but I thought the AK-47 was a true selective-fire "assault" rifle (Sturmgewehr). Maybe it was really a semi-auto AK variant, but the press is trying to hysteria-ize the gun issue to whip up support of reinstating the poorly named "assault weapon" ban.
If you listen to the media you would assume that the AK-47 is the world's most popular and most deadly gun.
Why would a cop speculate as to what specific make / model of weapon was used?
If they did say what weapon they thought was used and it was anything other than an AK-47 do you think the media would have printed it?
I think not.
In the face of conspiracy types, I always contended legislators bided their time to introduce bills immediately after such events. Funny, the order was reversed this time...coincidence or planning? hate to consider...
Time to crack down on the CCW holders and get excess guns off the street in Pittsburg as well!
Mayor John Street: Too many people get gun-carry permits in city
They certainly didn't buy a weapon at the age of 17 legally.
