Just heard on Fox that U.S. Senate will convene today in emergency session regarding Terri Schiavo.
Well it is good to know that Sensenbrenner has maintained his reputation for "sensibility" in the U.S. House. Earlier we had a false report that he had been uncooperative in the fight to save Terri.
yes. Probably the only positive outcome of this tragic story. With the current level of national publicity (vis this case), millions are probably giving Living Wills long overdue attention.
MRS is not "stupid." He is on the verge of pulling off the crime of the century with the approval of the judiciary, the media, and the American people! It is shameful that his intellect has not been channeled to productive efforts.

I'm sure you're right. some anti-Terri callers on radio talk shows hint that they've withdrawn hydration from a relative.

Near as I can tell, she's usually sympathetic to murderers, and she's especially fond of this particular one, going back at least a year and half that I know of.
This happens hundreds of times every day. Ordinarily, it causes no controversy.
It certainly isn;t somethying people are reticent to discuss.

No kidding. I am sure that many people here will know what I'm talking about when I say, that literally EVERY TIME my sister and I walked into my mom's room, her, what do you call it, like a tree with all her fluids, meds, etc., was hanging, was beeping because something was missing.
I have no doubt that they shut off food. Or they were VERY slow to give it to her.
We had to ask for pain meds for her. And I mean, every single time we were there. My mom would say that she hurt, but only if my sister or I asked the nurses, would morphine be given.
Someone another time said that this happens every day.
I think that it does. If there isn't a family member there 24/7, the people that the institution considers dead already, are, well, ignored as much as possible.

Exactly. Who among us hasn't feared losing control of their bodies or losing a great part of their mental faculties?
No, no one wants to end up like Terri. But the thing is, we have to look at this logically.
First. If we must choose between life and death: Life is the only option that allows a reconsideration.
Second. If Terri has a healthy brain trapped in a damaged body, well, we can look to Freeper expatguy and numerous other examples to see why we should preserve her life, her physical body, in case her consciousness returns.
Or, if Terri has a damaged brain trapped in a damaged body, but she can still exist, then can someone tell me why she "would have wanted to die?" I mean, she wouldn't have the mental ability to say, "this totally sucks! I want to die! I am not what I was!"
Because that is the "healthy brain" trapped in a "damaged body" voice talking.
But please, let us ask Stephen Hawking if even that is so bad.
I remember 10/2003 when Terri was taken off of food for 6 days while they were putting issues in place. Suffering for 6 days. Yes, I really think this business should have been conducted sooner. She's suffering. The date of the 18th has been known and this could have been addressed long before today. My post is from frustration of the matter being addressed after she is not given food and water.
Also, Felos had Thanked a Senator, I can't recall who, yesterday at his press conference for purposely holding the process up yesterday. So my concern is they are taking too long, since this woman has been withheld food and water since yesterday at 1:30. If we do not agree on this, I agree we don't agree. I will not insult you.
1) Stop getting up.
2) Stop eating.
3) Stop drinking.
4) Stop waking up.
5) Stop breathing.
When someone who is "under your care" enters this sequence, I dare you to put in a feeding tube.
THAT'S barbarism.

With a huge determining factor being whether grandma has any assets to be lost to the cost of an extended nursing home stay. Wouldn't you say?
