I-401 is Found!

20 March 2005.....I-401 was one of three huge Japanese submarines taken by the US Navy at the end of the war, studied and eventually scuttled in deep water. This boat and her sister I-400 had watertight aircraft hangars that housed small floatplanes which were to be used for scouting. These boats were surrendered to US Navy forces at the end of the war, taken back to Hawaii to be studied then because the Soviets were demanding access to these boats, they were taken out to sea on 31 May 1946 and used as torpedo targets of USS CABEZON. Below is a photo of one of the AA guns taken by HURL (Hawaii Undersea Research Lab).

Interesting. I delayed FReeping tonight so I could watch an hour-long doc on The History Channel regarding a couple U-boats in the Gulf that were attacking transit shipping and spying on cities. Look for a re-broadcast.

Dah! Is proud tour boat of the Rodina, with which we make cultural exchange! Forward 18 hatches open to reveal par 3 golf course. Below that, two interior tennis courts so that you can play tennis in any kind of weather, "even under the North Pole!" Forward tubes are for dispensing with sudden up-rise-of-mountain from seafloor (unlike in America where capitalist boat tries to bully its way through). Several Internet and telecommunications amenities with which to contact home and GPS satellites in order to ensure we are on course. Aft tubes for dispensing ... well ... nevermind, is public education project.
