Schiavo Kin: Parents Not Wanted at Burial
Guardian ^ | 3/31/05 | MICHAEL RUBINKAM

Associated Press Writer

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Terri Schiavo's ashes will be buried in an undisclosed location near Philadelphia so that her immediate family doesn't show up and turn the burial into a media spectacle, a member of the Schiavo family said Thursday.

``If Mike knew they would come in peace, he would have no problem with it,'' Scott Schiavo, Michael Schiavo's brother, said during an interview at his home.

After an autopsy, Michael Schiavo plans to have his wife's body cremated and her ashes brought to Pennsylvania, where she grew up. Scott Schiavo said the ashes would be buried in a plot left by an aunt and uncle, but the family does not plan on providing the specficic location for the burial - underscoring the bitterness of the dispute.

Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had fought for years to prevent her feeding tube from being removed, and they opposed cremation and wanted her buried in Florida.

Neither Terri Schiavo's parents nor her siblings addressed the issue of her burial in their remarks to reporters in Florida on Thursday. A spiritual adviser to her parents, Paul O'Donnell, said they plan to hold a Roman Catholic Mass without her body sometime next week.

Scott Schiavo said he received a stream of calls Thursday from people denouncing him. On his answering machine was a message from a man from Texas who called the Schiavo family murderers.

Police made visits Thursday to both Scott Schiavo's home and the home of his brother, William, in Philadelphia, as a result of threats to the families.

Scott Schiavo expressed relief that his sister-in-law's ordeal was over, and anger at those who have attacked the Schiavo family.

``This isn't over by a long shot, We're going to get our name right,'' he said. ``The world is going to know who Mike was, they're going to know Mike wasn't a beast.''

At Terri Schiavo's alma mater, Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, workers changed a sign that read ``Terri Schiavo, Class of 1981, We pray that you may live'' to ``We pray that you rest in peace.''

Sounds like a book deal in the offing to me. No pun intended. Never have I wished total strangers the ill I wish these people. I know that is wrong, but I don't care. I wish them every ill, I wish them suffering, I hope they burn in hell.

Perhaps Michael, if he had any heart or class, would have his own service, then hand the ashes over to the parents for another. You really expect anyone to believe that if the parents get ahold of her remains that they would return them to the husband??? Really????

Better yet, why not let the parents have a Catholic service, blessing of the body and then he can have his cremation? You REALLY beleive that if the parents get control of her remains that they would return them to the husband? You REALLY believe that????

``The world is going to know who Mike was, they're going to know Mike wasn't a beast.''

They could save themselves some trouble, really. The world already knows who Mike is.

I sure wouldn't want my wife's funeral turned into the media circus that's been outside that hospice.

I wonder if he'll be thoughtful enough to not invite the woman he's been sharing a bed with for the last 10 years. Terri is not his wife and it's nauseating for him to assume the role he gave up long ago.

The Omnipotent Judge Greer can always issue a "court order" for them to kiss and make up.

LOL

Fine talk, but Michael is denying Terry a Catholic Funeral, according to her beliefs.

I can't shake the feeling that MS and all of the death cultists he's involved with are a Satanic cabal, performing a ritual sacrifice of some sort. Rosemary's baby or something, I don't know.

I see only evil in this entire affair.

Me, too. There's somewhat of an EXTREMELY unholy brotherhood between Michael, Felos & Greer. Like there's a pact of death.

And what purpose did it serve for Michael to be in that room alone with Terri before she died? Trying to undo any holy last rites she was given? I HOPE someone is digging deep into the history of the hospice, Pinellas Park and the lives of those involved. Just hope they aren't doing it alone...they may wind up on the receiving end of a euthanasia judge.

Actually yes I do. I think their behaviour after the death of their daughter was top knotch compared to the behaviour of the M.Schiavo mouthpiece.

Can anyone really expect him to forget all of this and make up.

It's not a matter of "making up." It's a matter of being civil, honoring the dead and having character enough to do the right thing. Swallowing one's pride for the sake of decency won't kill Mikey, his current common law wife nor his siblings. Just wondering if he'll bring his two children to his charade of tears.

On what possible grounds? I don't know anything about this hospice in particular, but hospice in general and in my experience is a very noble and caring profession. I for one am more than thankful for the kind hospice people who cared for members of my family. I am going to bet this case has been nothing but a headache to that hospice facility and all the other families who really needed it these last weeks.

I doubt it, and I could understand the anger at him doing so. We have a rift in our family because of someone bringing a girlfriend to a family gathering at which it was not appropriate.

I already know who Mike is and I don't like him at all. What he did to his wife is outrageous. Not only did he murder her; he won't even let her parents have a say regarding their own daughter.

Making allegations of wife-beating for seven years without any evidence is pretty abominable in my book.

How abominable is it when a man refuses to let the woman he professes to love feel the sun on her face, music in her ears, the smell of flowers in her nose or a rehab nurse to flex her atrophied muscles?

Hospice is a wonderful method of caring for people. Hospice helped care for my grandmother when she was dying from cancer.

It is not hospice per se, it is that particular organized "hospice" care center ie the Board of Directors, of which several of the major players were members, at the facility in Pinellas Park.

No; but he could be man enough to admit he has another wife, and the Schindlers will never have another daughter ...
