I wondered about that too - however - she was only 26 when she was struck down - and most people that age [especially if they don't have children] don't think about life insurance.
Having worked in an insurance agency - there is no LEGAL way to take out an insurance policy on someone without their knowledge and consent. Terri would have been required to sign the policy.
So .. with all the other under the table things going on with the husband - I don't think I'd be surprised if he tried to pull something - but I hope some insurance people will confirm what I've said.
A friend of mine wanted to take out a policy on someone she had worked for because he had cheated her out of a lot of money. Her thought was that if anything happened to him - then this would be a way for her to recoup her loss. The guy refused to have the physical exam - so she never could get him covered.
Since Terri could not have passed an insurance physical - and could not have even given her oral consent or sign her name .. I don't think the husband could get a policy on her.
I still contend money was not and is not the motive .. keeping her quiet was the motive.
My husband and I were on opposite ends of the spectrum on the Schiavo situation. I said murder from day one. He thought she should be allowed to die and was real upset at the politicians for getting involved. He had plenty of heated arguments.
Yesterday, especially after watching Felos, he apologized to me and said he has come around to my side. He said the more and more he learned of the case and the more and more he saw this lawyer he felt that something was just not right.
I also caught Felos on the Today show. I could only stand a minute or two of the interview but Anne Currie was actually attacking the man for not letting Terri's family in the room for her final moments.
Unfortunately, it's too late for Terri, but many people's eyes are opening up to these murders.
Is it possible that Anne Currie isn't as liberal as Couric and the rest of the Today crew?
A "guardian" can't sign for her?
"a guardian can't sign for her"
Hmmmmm? That's a good question - and I don't know the answer.
The only clue is that I have been discussing taking out policies on my grandchildren [a policy they can cash in at 18 - to use for college]. Their parents would have to consent and sign the policies - but that's a parent-child relationship (and they're all under 18). So .. I don't know if the same thing would apply to a guardian.
And .. it might differ in certain states - although I think most insurance regulations are intra-state.
Even if a guardian could have signed for Terri - she would not have been able to pass the physical - which I believe is an insurance regulation "must have". Once a person has that major a physical limitation - I don't know of any insurance company which would be willing to take the risk; and "risk" is how people are rated - what is the risk she will live a reasonable length of time.
This is a great question - and I wish some insurance person would answer it.
Yes, I'm sure that was part of it, a big part. The whole thing is a travesty as well as a tragedy. God will not forget.
I believe you - "GOD will not forget" - and neither will we.
I've never had a total stranger's death affect me so much. I had this sick feeling in my gut - and my mom was beginning to worry about me because I was not eating right or sleeping good - I have been affected forever by this sweet young lady's life.
I heard an audio clip of that exchange. The man is delusional.
I don't think I've ever been more anxious for a man to fade from the national stage as I am regarding Felos. Just go away, you ghoul.
If Felos thinks it's so wonderful, why doesn't he try it on himself before sentencing others to go through it? And, why wait? At some point, perhaps soon, no one knows, Felos himself will become a burden, a useless eater, a life unworthy of life (if he isn't that already). So, why deprive others of resources that he is currently expending? Do the world a favor and starve and dehydrate yourself, and let us all know how wonderful it it.
Truth is, he won't do it. He's a coward. He loves to observe and relishes the "death process", as long as it is someone else and not himself. Like any murderous megalomaniac, he relishes the power he holds over others, the ultimate power of life and death. I guess it helps cover the feelings he has for his own inadequacy and lack of self-worth. So he lashes out at others and uses the courts to sanction his bloody business.
Possibly, but I don't think so. A parent can get insurance on a child, but insurance companies do not give out life insurance on people in Terri's condition unless they are going to charge really huge premiums. Too risky otherwise.
Working as a nurse, I have had occaision to be at the bedside of many who are in the process of dying and at the final moment as well.
There is a truth felos will not tell you. No matter the circumstances, death looks the same on all. There is an ummistakeable look of death.
I have seen one exception. We had one patient who was not ready to die. He was afraid and there were family issues not resolved. He fought death until his last breath. I was something no one wants to witness.
I have never seen an exception to the look of death on the other end of the spectrum.
If the Priest says she was frightened, I believe him. In my experience, the eye movement he spoke of betrays the words of felos.
It is quite possible that Terri had a policy before the accident.
From what I have read, she worked for an insurance company, didn't she?
How old is he anyway?
Perhaps he is old enough to have outlived his usefulness and should consider the "death process"?
Heh! I'm surprised it took as long as it did to get a reply referencing that! ; )
Thanks for sharing that. I believe what you are saying. Terri did not die a nice, peaceful death. Mxxx
I believe she fought to live until her body could no longer bear the battle. God has put in us the will to live. Otherwise we'd commit suicide at the first tragic thing to happen to us. Even Michael couldn't take that away from her.
I've actually had an about-face. The more Felos speaks out the more he exposes the darkness of his views so maybe he should keep on talking.
Perhaps his attorney can help him come up with a way to alleviate his pain?
I've heard, of late, that there is a peaceful, content filled process that works wonders.....
Perhaps, however don't underestimate the capabilities of some such as P.T. Barnum.
