He started small - and then gained steam because of naive people - and probably many good people - who simply couldn't conceive of where the first step of getting rid of the unfortunates would lead. When a society allows such evil to happen - it's inevitable it will go downhill from there.

Every society has the "Nazi" personality in it. (One doesn't have to call themselves a Nazi to be one!) The only thing that keeps them in check is the right laws. If they can knock a hole in those - anarchy will break out and not be easily quelled.

Diogenesis was commenting on the ongoing possible illegality and criminality of the matter by using those pictures. Along those same lines, the thread's initiator was interested in the possibility of illegal desires in not allowing an observer to the autopsy. They were agreed, and along the same lines! You are NOT!

YOU did hijack the thread for your own self indulgent purposes. Admit it. The subject of the thread is a creeping illegality and possible systematic wrongdoing, not your sensitivities.

Terri's situation stands on it's own.

It does not. It would make zero sense for so many people to expend so much effort to kill one woman unless it were part of some larger plot. I don't know whether the intended size of the victim pool numbers in the hundreds, thousands, or millions, but it's not just Terri--not by a long shot.

Although I do not doubt that Terri was substantially brain damaged, the legal mechanisms in place don't really require that. Any ward whom a guardian could pump full of drugs could be rendered 'PVS' and have some phony 'wishes' attributed to them to justify their murder. A "friendly" ME would be required to help justify the PVS claims post-mortem, but if outside observers can be blocked that shouldn't be a problem.

There have already been a number of exposés of cases where people have been declared incompetant and been robbed by 'gaurdians'. Mix that in with the ability for guardians to kill off their wards, and things start to look incredibly scary. Of course some people will be protected by the state. But others...

I don't believe this country is likely to crank up its death machinery to the level achieved in Nazi Germany. But since murder can be committed in broad daylight, I'd say we're much too close for comfort.

What I am saying is that Nazi Germany was thus far a unique event. 6 million Jews were exterminated in an effort to extinguish a race of people.

It is a turn off to those not as committed to Terri's cause.

Terri's cause is not unique. Her cause - and Robert Wendland's "cause" is our cause too - and the millions that will die in the future in the same manner if we don't stop it now...

Terri was our wake up call and to just sigh and go on our way with blinders on is to let her have died a horrific death in vain.

I understand that from your dozens of posts on this thread. Your feelings about seeing the pictures are quite understandable. That does not change the fact that you have taken over this thread about the need for an honest medical examination because of your own hurt feelings.

If you are so upset, start a vanity thread and explain how these pictures and comparisons may not serve Terri and Terri's case very well, in your opinion. That really would be the place for all your injured sensibilities.

We all know how you feel by now, start a thread on it. It would be a very good one ...... elsewhere. It is obviously a very debatable issue.

There have been some very close calls like Robert Wendland, who woke up from a coma to an aware, if mentally retarded, state and was almost offed by the courts at his wife's request, and horrifying tales like Marjorie Nighbert, who asked for food in vain after people thought she had wanted to be starved.

I would say that nobody who is aware enough to express interest in food and drink should be starved if he or she expresses such interest. "Competent" or not.
