CBS Cameraman Shot By US Troops Under Arrest
Troops believe he was working for insurgents, not just covering them as reporter.
Just announced on CNN. Developing...
evidence?
i know someone in texas with a fax machine. what evidence do you need?
Remember it was Mike Wallace of CBS that said he wouldn't warn US troops of an ambush if he knew about it since his job was to report the news.
CBS News has a culture of anti-patriotism.
C-158.
LOL. "Hi this is Bill Burkett, secret source for CBS..
Allah Fubar! If he dies, he gets 70 Leslie Stahl's.
ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE VEGAS ODDS ARE ABOUT THIS BEING ON THE 6 O'CLOCK CBS NEWS TONIGHT?
Especially when fired out of a short barrel, as with the M4. Still, I think the 6.8 would be a better compromise (everything is a compromise when you're an engineer) between range, accurracy, effectiveness and loadout weight. The older 5.56 stuff did suffer, both in accurracy and effectiveness at longer ranges. And for the same reasons, too slow to "tumble" as designed. Those longer ranges were rarely encountered in the jungle, but more common in the mountains or dessert. In cities it can be either way depending on the scenario. First Gulf War was in the dessert but was also much more of a mechanized affair, as was the initial invasion in 2003.
As I understand it, there aren't many serviceable M-14s left in the warehouses. They were either destroyed by Billy Jeff (lest they fall in to the hands of the CMP and be converted into civilian legal semi-autos) or have been issued. Either as is, or upgraded. They try to have a so called designated marksman, with a 7.62x51 "battle rifle", along on most patrols. Or so I read anyway.
Turn him over to the Iraqi Government...They won't have much sympathy for his sorry arse.
DOH that'd be :

net vs com.......damn !
Dan Rather now reporting the videotape is "Real, but inaccurate."
Excerpt from post #118:
But on Friday, the military said the cameraman was detained because there was probable cause to believe he posed ``an imperative threat to coalition forces.''
``He is currently detained and will be processed as any other security detainee,'' the statement said.
Well, well, well .....
Big Bump. Hope they throw the book at the dirty S.O.B.
In the short term, simple changes in bullet design could radically increase the effectiveness of the current caliber and rifle issued to 90% of troops. Russian ammo, for example, is far more effective with the hollow space-penetrator-driver design. But our JAGs won't permit our men to use that type of ammo. Beehive rounds are fine, cluster bombs are fine, but decent ammo for the troops is verboten. Go figure.

Hang 'em High!
I have a directive/order/decision we were issued by our command that said HP ammo was authorized for all but a declared war......uniformed troops in such a fight get ball ammo and terrorists get the good stuff for CT ops..... I'll have to hunt it up and scan for ya to peek at when I get home !
I knew a VN era SEAL Stoner gunner who would clip the tips off of all of his ammo. Jungle ranges, he wanted them keyholing all over the place! Illegal? I guess. Did he care? No.
I was a puppy pusher for a while when I went in and we'd use valve grinding compound and an electric drill with a cleaning rod and bore brush....our rounds from an XM177 or GAU5A/A SMG would keyhole in such a fashion after we removed almost all the rifling . Albeit most of my grass cutting was Thailand at NKP it was done!
Most likely they were snookered too.
Thing that bothers me is what type of footage has this guy shot up till now? Where was the film in his camera when he got shot headed? To al Jezzera?
We sure as heck haven't seen gun battles from behind their enemy lines on the nightly news.
I don't think you can connect CNN's treason with CBS' bad luck.
Sorry for butchering sentence structure above.
