Minuteman Project to issue major planning statement - Organizers reviewing project's future, direction

April 17, 2005 (Tombstone, AZ)---On Monday, April 18, organizers of the Minuteman Project will be issuing a major statement on the immediate and long-term direction of the project.

Rumors have been circulating that the project might cut short its originally planned month-long monitoring of a 23 mile section of the Arizona-Mexican border by citizen volunteers. The project's cofounders, Chris Simcox and Jim Gilchrist, said it would be a mistake to think the border will be abandoned. "However, our overwhelming early successes along with more recent developments have caused us to review how best to direct the project the rest of the month and beyond, " Simcox said.

The project has generated national-indeed, worldwide-attention and controversy. President Bush alluded to the project's volunteers as "vigilantes." Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus and an outspoken critic of the president's immigration policies, said the volunteers were "heroes in my book." Tancredo has invited the leaders of the project to travel to Washington DC and report on the project to the members of his caucus.

Project organizers said they have been deluged with messages of support along with requests from citizens of the other border states to organize similar Projects in those states. Gilchrist said all issues would be addressed on Monday. The statement will be issued at 12:30pm in Tombstone from the office of the Tombstone Tumbleweed newspaper, 312 Toughnut Street.

Not happy about Tancredo's alignment - anti Speaker Tom Delay. Kudos to the Minutemen.

Tancredo has been doing polls on a daily basis and public opinion of MMP is low.

I dont especially have a high opinion of Tancredo after statements he made about Delay.

Do you speak German?

I find your nick offensive.

This is exciting, and it only stands to grow over the summer.

That is subjective and is a reflection on you, not me.

I think you are wrong. Since the MSM cant seem to slime the Minutemen, and the volume of immigration related bad news; any conservative with a conscience will see this is an issue that cannot be ignored.

You and the open borders folks are in the minority and on the losing side of this issue.

Folks who live in border states and have had livelihoods and lives disrupted by the illegals are making their case known.

You can minimize them as much as you want, the news will get out and you are on the wrong side.

Stop trying to drag those with an (R) prefix down to your Open Borders way of thinking. It's hurting them more than you can comprehend.

See what Fick means in German.

But in the meantime, CINOs will be able to get their lawns cut at $5.00 an hour.

And obviously important to you.

I see you are willing to discuss the substance of my arguments.

BS as usual, you have any proof? (this is really getting old...)

Again, the substance of you statement is subjective and is a reflection on you. A bad reflection.

Please post some evidence supporting your claim that public opinion of the MMP is low. Thank you.

Tancredo's been in the news a lot lately. I admit to not knowing anything about him. Is he planning on running for Pres.? I admire his stand on the Minutemen Project but I think politicians are feeling the heat about illegal immigration and have figured maybe, for their own political sake, they need to read what the voters think about the Minutemen Project. And his criticism of DeLay that I've heard just makes it seem like he thinks he should step aside until an investigation is done. I certainly don't agree with him on that but he hasn't come out and said that he believes DeLay did anything illegal or unethical.

Well, as an example, prior to the Minutemen Project getting publicity (20 Mar 2005 or so), you and the OBL (That's Open Border Loons) Dane; bayourod; MikeinIraq; COEXERJ145 created many posts designed to ostracise interrupt and berate anyone who wished to defend the border to the point that intelligent discussion was impossible.

You have managed to enlighten many folks to the errors of your arguments, ad hominem attacks and minimizing any legitimate thought of defending the borders. My observations of posts indicate you are definitely in the minority.
