WEST POINT, N.Y. -- U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., married Julia Hart on Saturday in a ceremony at the United States Military Academy, which Reed, a former Army Ranger, attended.
Reed, 55, and Hart, 39, were wed in a ceremony at the academy's Catholic Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity. Rev. Raymond Malm, pastor of St. Michael's Church in Providence, officiated. The couple's attendants included eight of their nieces, as well as other family and friends.
A luncheon reception was to follow at the academy's James H. Herbert Alumni Center.
Hart, of Arlington, Va., is an Interparliamentary Coordinator in the Office of the Secretary of the United States Senate, Interparliamentary Services. The office handles the Senate's international travel as well as other contact with foreign governments.
She and Reed first met on a trip to Afghanistan in 2002.
The pair didn't begin dating until August 2003, after a chance meeting in Rhode Island, where Hart was visiting family.
They were engaged Nov. 24, 2004, during a visit to New York City to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and tour the Gilbert Stuart exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum.
The couple was not planning an immediate honeymoon trip. Reed was expected back at work in the Senate in the coming week.
It is the first marriage for both.

LOL We cradle robbers need to stick together !
Yes, but remember that 39 is a very popular age for women...she could have been 39 for several years, now. ;)
I remember Hillary Clilnton's trip to Afghanistan. Jack Reed went along as her lap dog.
I wondered if she maybe gave him away at the wedding. :-)
The first time I read this I thought it said Ceremony Held At Gun Point
ping
Hmmm...it's says he attended his own marriage cermony.
LOL I thought the same thing!
RI Ping!
Sorry nutmeg, I didn't catch your ping on this.
Make this a "Loathsome RI Senator Ping", since Reed is such a tool.
Let me know if you want on or off the ping list
Don't worry at all about that, ItsOurTimeNow... I'm sure you're very busy. I miss a bunch of pings sometimes.
Make this a "Loathsome RI Senator Ping", since Reed is such a tool.
LOL... Not sure who's more loathsome from day-to-day... your Senators or mine! (CT)
cant really tell from this pic but she appears good looking
wonder how much it cost him to buy her?
Reed got nowhere near Vietnam. After he graduated he volunteered for Harvard. If there is any record of him volunteering for Vietnam, he’s never mentioned it.
Had a reputation as being light in the loafers, did he?
Reed is a Roman Catholic in the same sense as Senator Kennedy or Nancy Pelosi.
Wow. You’re repsonding to a post from 4 years ago?
Why not, every time I see this Limp-Richard on the media pontificating on military subjects it turns my stomach. They need to find somebody from USMA ‘71 who actually went to Vietnam to do that.
My snarky comment from 4 years ago aside, his rep was one of being practically asexual (that he spent all his waking hours working on his far-left political interests... I mean even Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd took a break to drink and f**k). I mean, you see the guy, he doesn’t even look like he comes with a pair of genitals. Like a troll-doll.
I agree. By the way, the “working class” credential really don’t hold up. His dad wasn’t a guy out busting his azz working seventy hours a week on two jobs. He took it easy in a no heavy lifting position and Junior has been more or less attached to the federal teet his entire life. All I heard regarding the rep is that he seemed to resent people with money, especially the self made (Tom Delay, Senator Coburn) types.
