Iran's parliament Considers Paying People To Vote

You might be interested to know that Iranian parliament members are trying hard to approve the bill to pay 50,000 Toumans (roughly US $ 50) to every Iranian participating in the upcoming election as an incentive.DoctorZin: The average monthly wage in Iran is about $120.
One of the Mullahs' candidate announced that if he wins the election, he will pay more to Iranian people as a result of his triumph. This candidate is the former speaker of the Majlis (parliament) and he belongs to so-called reformist camp of the regime.

Assreemrooz.com is reporting that one of Iran's most famous dissidents is in hiding (this report has been confirmed by the Iranian Student Movement).
Ahmad Batebi became internationally known when the Economist published a photo of him waving the bloody t-shirt of a brutalized peer, following the 1999 student demonstrations.
The photo was published worldwide (including this blog) and as a result Ahmad was arrested, sentenced to death (later reduced to a fifteen year sentence). He has spent the last six years in Iran's most infamous Evin Prison.
Batebi has suffered in prison. His lungs have deteriorated, and he has lost some eyesight and hearing as a result of prison beatings. He has been released in the past for medical furloughs.
It was reported that on a recent furlough from prison he married and went into hiding.
It is reported that said "I am not going back... They can come and find me!"

- The Financial Times is reporting that Iran's top nuclear official has warned that Iran will continue negotiations for a few more months only if the EU3 signal that Iranian ideas on limited uranium enrichment can be the basis of the negotiations.
- Arab News Agencies are reporting that Iranian police have vowed to crack down on the way women dress this summer.
- AFP reports that eight students have been handed suspended prison terms for insulting President Mohammad Khatami.
- VOA News reports President George W. Bush as saying that "across the broader Middle East, the tide of freedom is surging.
- WorldTribune.com report that the State Department's forthcoming report on global terrorism will not contain statistics on attacks.
- The Associated Press reports that the Bush administration accused Iran of violating the rights of Arabs and other minority groups.
