"Fake Warrior" LISA JANE PHILLIPS indicted in N.C. for impersonating U.S. military officer

For those who have worked tirelessly to identify, expose and punish those who falsify their military service -- among them Jug Burkett, the Schantags, Mike McGrath, the Holzers, and too many others to name -- the press release that appears below is sweet indeed. It is a template for how Fake Warriors can and should be prosecuted for a range of federal crimes arising from their imposture.

Following the press release is the name and address of the United States Attorney who indicted Fake Warrior Phillips. I am providing the information because everyone who cares about the Fake Warrior issue should take a moment to thank Acting United States Attorney George E.B. Holding for indicting Phillips and thus standing up for authentic veterans. Please do one other thing: ask Mr. Holding to seek severe penalties when Phillips is convicted, either after trial or (more likely) when she pleads guilty to at least some of the charges. If Mr. Holding receives hundreds of such requests, let alone thousands, he may well acceed to them. When time for sentencing comes, I will provide the name of the sentencing judge so that we can again ask for severe penaties. This woman need to go to jail! A message needs to be sent!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Thursday - April 7, 2005

RALEIGH - Acting United States Attorney George E. B. Holding announced that LISA JANE PHILLIPS was indicted by a federal grand jury in Raleigh, N. C., on Thursday, April 7, 2005, for false impersonation of an officer of the United States and related violations.

PHILLIPS, 34, of 5004 Buckingham Way, Apex, N. C., was named in a 12-count indictment. The charges included falsely impersonating an officer of the United States; falsely impersonating an officer of the United States in order to obtain a thing of value; making a false statement in a matter within the jurisdiction of the U. S. Department of Defense; six counts of wire fraud; possessing without authority insignia of the Department of Defense; wearing without authority the uniform of the armed forces of the United States; and wearing without authority decorations and medals authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States.

According to the indictment, since approximately March 2002, PHILLIPS had been wearing a United States Air Force uniform with captain insignia and representing herself to be a Captain in the United States Air Force. Based on her false impersonation, officials at Meredith College, an independent private women's college in Raleigh, N. C., waived tuition and expenses associated with PHILLIPS' education, which were valued at approximately $42,178.00.

The indictment alleges that the Air Force uniform that PHILLIPS wore was decorated with the following military medals and ribbons: Bronze Star (medal and ribbon), Purple Heart (medal and ribbon), Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Joint Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal.

Investigation of the case was conducted jointly by the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U. S. Attorney Kelly M. Perry is prosecuting the case for the United States.

This gets back to our conversation on the phone the other day ... I told you then it was happening ... and if I knew of someone impersonating a soldier/veteran ... I'd deck 'em, just before I called the authorities ... :)

"European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal"

I mentioned this on an old thread, but this is a WWII medal. She pissed off another generation of vets.

Bronze Star (medal and ribbon), Purple Heart (medal and ribbon), Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Joint Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal.

The Bronze Star should have been an Instant Red Warning Flag. As far as I know, officers are not eligible for the Good Conduct Medal. And I have never heard of an "Aerial Achievement Medal".

Crucify her!

Jack.

As far as I know, officers are not eligible for the Good Conduct Medal.

If one had prior enlisted service, the Good Conduct Medal would be possible.

"European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal."

What's this one? I don't think we ever fought a three front war in the last decade.

I agree. Nail these a$$holes to the wall. We had tons of them from our war also. What especially gripped me was most were the beggars on the streets giving us such a bum rap.

I have to assume she not only wore the uniform illegally, she also presented false documentation.

This phenomena really exploded after Vietnam. It's always been with us to a certain extent but there has been quite a "bubble" since then. "Jugs" Burkett, through his book "Stolen Valor" really taught me what to look for and how to legally access these frauds files and backgrounds, I consider it required reading for anyone that is interested in helping expose these people.

These people must be exposed and prosecuted when possible, they do great harm to real veterans and the country because people see these nuts and think, "I don't want my son (or daughter) serving, they are all crazy!" Thus, the (phony) psychopathic "Vietnam Vet" syndrome. We can't have that.

Unfortunately, the image of the deranged, pin-infested boonie hat wearing drifter and professional weeper is accepted by many.
