Too bad he didn't lead with this great defense of Justice Owen.

Perhaps we should ask people to be sure and post on this thread if the world comes to an end so we'll know?

extolling the virtues of moderation...standing for nothing, and offending as few people as possible.

Applying the law of averages to moderates, conservatives ought then expect a few Democrat moderates to support the constitutional option. You know, for the sake of fairness.

Did you include ACT and Emily's list?

I am not disputing the opensecret web site. I saw this somewhere and it shocked me.

Or, when the vote on Owen comes up, he may vote "not Proven"

I agree with you about the overreaction. This crap HAS gone on way too long and needs to be settled, but as I posted earlier, IMHO there is not going to be a resolution on this ... that is, a bid to end cloture and force a vote ... before next week.

Is that why they keep saying "these nominees have had a floor vote?"

Those are references to cloture votes. 16 of them in 2003, 4 in 2004. The conclusion in those 20 cases was "The Senate will not vote on the nominee."

I don't think I'm over-reacting, I think Specter is acting! :-)

he's going to let people talk and talk and talk and talk until we're all bored silly,

It is important for future issues that the record be clear about what has led to this. Boring but necessary and prudent.

I also think that as a matter of principle the parties should release senators from party votes on judges.

We might ALL wish for that. But the reality will be that the RATS won't honor it. Most of them will vote lock-step party line regardless of what their personal feelings are about the nominee. So your offer, while generous and optimal, wouldn't be applied fairly.

IMO.

If we had an old style filabuster...you might have 5 vacant seats in the Senate at the end..Lautenberg, Sheets, Sarbanes, Specter, Swimmer..

I think he is acting as well. Either that, or he is euphoric that Frist actually let him talk.

Yes, I am. But I am pretty.

People say the darnedest things on the internet! I would like an up or down vote on FR as to whether you should post a picture for proof of your "prettiness" LOL

We may need cloture on this.

Specter may very well vote against Owen. But I think he'll vote for cloture and to at least give her a vote. Arlen is Arlen, he'll never be a conservative, but if he votes to for cloture, that's good enough for me, because IMHO his vote won't be needed on Owen.
