WASHINGTON, May 20 -Al Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan began to assemble the equipment necessary to build a rudimentary biological weapons laboratory before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, letters released by the Defense Department show.
...
The letters are among the documents recovered in late 2001 after the invasion of Afghanistan that United States intelligence officials have frequently cited as evidence that Al Qaeda was working to develop biological weapons.
The letters...detail a visit by an unnamed Qaeda scientist to a laboratory at an unspecified location where he was shown "a special confidential room" with thousands of samples of biological substances. ...
The letter specifies a training program for the staff, lasting six to eight months for senior workers and two to four months for technicians. ... describes a biological weapons program that "was extensive, well organized and operated two years before the Sept. 11." ....
"They were moving to try to get the right stuff," said D. A. Henderson, an expert on biological weapons ... ...Dr. Milton Leitenberg...said many of people who were involved in the effort had been arrested or, in one case, killed. ...
The writer of the two letters is widely believed to be Abdur Rauf, a Pakistani microbiologist who is known to have attended a conference before 2001 sponsored by the Society for Applied Microbiology, said a biological weapons researcher who insisted on anonymity because of his work investigating Al Qaeda.
One letter was written on a notepad from the Society for Applied Microbiology, a prominent British organization of microbiologists.
All the names on the letters are blacked out ...
At the same camp where the letters were found, officials recovered articles from medical journals that detailed an approach to isolating, culturing and producing bacteria, including anthrax. ..."

Amazing, isn't it? If you look through the entire list on the scorecard you'll see that we have terrorists in this country out on bail as well.
I know. Sigh. I don't know about Belgium's legal system, but why can't we in the US make bail so high for these guys that they'd never be able to make it?
Snort.
I've got another question, how do we know all the guys who are in custody in Syria are really in custody in Syria? Or are we just hopin' real hard?
This is all crap. The anthrax was spread by a renegade biologist who used to work for the Army and deranged rednecks in Alabama. CNN said so. /Sheeple-speak off
Ah - somehow this is really weird, and I mean this sincerely.
Is this story actually being DEVELOPED by the NYSlimes, or is this just restating a press release of the Pentagon. Somehow, I don't think they are going to change their ways.
I'm so very skeptical about anything coming from the FRAUDcasters and Old Media now -
"They run stuff like this on Saturday, so they can claim the paper is "balanced"..."
Ah - yes ... that 'splains this story. I suspect it was also NOT above the fold on page #1?
ping.
That's what I love about this site. You get to the bottom of things. Do you have a link for that?
Atta and crew all croaked and it was a: "A no captives scenario". I'm inclined to think the same of the Anthrax attacks. Anyone who handled the stuff is dead...except the brain who initiated it. "Martyr Syndrome".
But then again, I think of the young sniper. He left his FLORIDA ??? school on the same day that the first anthrax victim was announced and no one saw him for two weeks. I still think he may have been the one who dropped the anthrax into the mail boxes. The older sniper had had his anthrax shots in the Military and I believe I remember that he bit**** about it.
There's a shocker. And, as usual, with any REAL news it will be swept under the rug because it doesn't fit the hypothesis of the disgruntled-biologist/right-wing/white-supremecist.
First thing that comes to mind is the rash of deaths of world renown microbiologists about 10 years ago leading up to 2001. Anybody remember a good summary thread about those incidents?
Anthrax is one of those weapons that there is a vaccine for and can therefore be handled easily at all points in any attack. That attack sure cost us a lot of money despite its ineffective "kill rate". (please don't take that as "only a few died...so no big deal". That would be like saying, "Only a few died when the Towers were bombed during the Clinton Administration"...so no big deal....Which is exactly the course Clinton took.
I believe this is very old news. I believe there were even drawings of a weather balloon to carry the stuff. "Didn't we find some weather balloon stuff in Iraq?? at one point??
The FBI well get right on it as soon as they finish draining the rest of the swamps in Maryland.
What's the FBI?

Taking it one step further, what was the only country in the world other than the US or Russia which had the capability to produce military-grade anthrax?
Bump!
What?
