I know how much we all want to support our side. I know that many of us are looking for something good in what happened tonight. Sadly, an honest assessment will result in a single conclusion, that tonight the Republican Senate failed the nation, in order to protect themselves from having to take a vote that would determine the future Presidential ambitions of some Senators.
Do not blame the 12 moderates, because we already knew that they could not be trusted. Do not blame the President, and tonight, you cannot even blame the Democrats. Their side did their job, which was to win. Our side did not. I am not posting this to bash the Republican Party, I am posting this, because I already see some of us looking for the silver lining in this turd. Do not do that. Face the reality of the situation, which is that Senators care about Senators. Bill Frist had ample opportunity to change Senate rules prior to the formation of the 109th Congress. He also had ample opportunity to pull the trigger weeks, even months ago. He did not, which is why I said in an earlier post, that would not vote for Frist for President no matter the outcome of events.
Unfortunatly, we have no recourse. We cannot give up the Senate in an attempt to punish the Senate Republicans. We cannot afford to cut off our noses to spite our faces. But the time will come, where we will have a chance to make our voices heard. Not tonight, not 2006 but maybe by 2008 we will have the voice, the organization, and the attention of enough minds to truly punish the Senate for what they did tonight.
Keep your powder dry, and wait for these folks to come into range. Save your ammo for now. But one day, we will make them pay.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg being the prime example!
I did not hear about this compromise yet,and who are the 7 Senators.
I have thought about this for at least an hour.
Be of good cheer! Read the "agreement." It is nothing. There are no guarantees. It will not hold up. This issue will come again, and it will eventually be settled.
The idiots who went along with this agreement are relying on the flimsiest of assurances: "trust" of the Democrats. I know that that will not hold, so the agreement will not last. To use a favorite media expression, it is practically "dead on arrival."
I keep telling you guys not to trust the Russians. Well, never trust the Democrats. You will see!
Check please.
Agreed, we were taken for a ride.

Yeah, just think about megliomaniac McCain.
He convinces 5 Rino's (not hard to do) and 6 Dems to form, essentially, an "independent party" within the Senate under his control. The 6 Rinos take away the GOP majority. And as long as they stay absolutely unified with the 6 conspiring DEMS, those 12 control the agenda on any contested issue.

Beyond the 12, however, I'm not willing to give some other GOP "comity, gentlemen Senators (Specter and Warner, for instance) a pass.
If this 12 screw up the deal on the nuclear option (which we know is important to the Supreme Court), I'm not going to believe that Specter and Warner and their ilk, didn't have a hand in it.
When I saw Specter's name on the cloture motion, I knew that the fix was in- Frist gets to play to his base, Reid to his- but all along, a compromise was in the works.
They won't get mine and my family's.
Exactly dalereed. I've been singin' that song for years!!!!
The maintained nothing. The Dems can and will change it to suit their wim.
And it was the dims that changed standard procedure, not the GOP.
"not 2006"
Why not 2006? Some of them will be up for re-election in 2006.
I hate to say this, but she will win if she runs.

>"The next time the Dummies are in the majority, they'll change the Senate rules on Day 1"
>>Then why didn't they during the 50 years they controlled congress?
Because we never tried to block them that way before. They probably figure we would now, unless they are completely daft, and they are not. Marxism doesn't equal tactical stupidity, it equals eventual failure. Don't underestimate these guys. Just like all the quotes we were digging up this week, the DU'ers will be digging up everything said this week by our side.
"Oh, but what about when Senator Allen said..."
We should focus on a few key RINO's (the 7 are the starting point), and do our best to campaign them out.
Getting more conservatives elected is the goal, correct? The best vehicle to do that right now is the Republican party. So our goals are clear. It is pretty obvious that any third party vote would be useless at this time. Since we are in the middle of a war for our country, it is not time to throw up our hands.
Freepers should (as others have proposed here many times) donate our time and money directly to conservative candidates and groups instead of the party directly. This will effectively dilute support available to the RINO's, send a message, and should still keep the guys really fighting for us in D.C. in fighting trim.
Frist just better be madder than a Rottweiler chained to a doublewide.
Goodnight all, I need a drink.
I dont have to stay home and let Hillary win. McCain, Graham and Snowe will vote for her.
You should have put Post Reply #101 as your thread starter!
I took the time to watch the RINO Clowns! After 2 minutes
I shut the TV Off!
Why did you say that to PD?
