Do not be fooled, the Republican Senate RAPED you tonight.

Posted on 05/23/2005 5:57:23 PM PDT by Pukin Dog

I know how much we all want to support our side. I know that many of us are looking for something good in what happened tonight. Sadly, an honest assessment will result in a single conclusion, that tonight the Republican Senate failed the nation, in order to protect themselves from having to take a vote that would determine the future Presidential ambitions of some Senators.

Do not blame the 12 moderates, because we already knew that they could not be trusted. Do not blame the President, and tonight, you cannot even blame the Democrats. Their side did their job, which was to win. Our side did not. I am not posting this to bash the Republican Party, I am posting this, because I already see some of us looking for the silver lining in this turd. Do not do that. Face the reality of the situation, which is that Senators care about Senators. Bill Frist had ample opportunity to change Senate rules prior to the formation of the 109th Congress. He also had ample opportunity to pull the trigger weeks, even months ago. He did not, which is why I said in an earlier post, that would not vote for Frist for President no matter the outcome of events.

Unfortunatly, we have no recourse. We cannot give up the Senate in an attempt to punish the Senate Republicans. We cannot afford to cut off our noses to spite our faces. But the time will come, where we will have a chance to make our voices heard. Not tonight, not 2006 but maybe by 2008 we will have the voice, the organization, and the attention of enough minds to truly punish the Senate for what they did tonight.

Keep your powder dry, and wait for these folks to come into range. Save your ammo for now. But one day, we will make them pay.

No!
They did it to themselves.

Wait until I construct my standard response to their fundraising efforts.

What is the point of spending my time and money to support a bunch of spineless cowards?

"Why don't moderates ever land on the side of conservatism?"

It's rare, in part because the Left plays a harder form of ball than the right does. The exit from the Left is harder. A complete lack of morality provides certain tactical advantages to the Left. They will do anything to destroy a person that stands in their way. Defectors stand in their way. Conservatives have morality, and do not exact the sorts of penalties for defections that the Left does.

Yes. I do blame the rino's. No, I don't blame the Republican party, they did their best with what we sent them.

Bad political decisions should have consequences as warnings to others. We should target those rino's who are up for reelection in 2006, and work for their opponents.

Fact is, the Moderates will vote against Filibuster no matter what happens

I disagree, my friend. Every "word" on the street here in D.C. confirms that the Republicans have the votes for the Constitutional Option.

The "14" were given their day in the spotlight tonight. But, look closely at the "Compromise" What exactly have the Republicans given up? ---- Two nominees who would have lost the vote on the floor of the Senate.

The Constitutional Option will be triggered. Yes, I wanted it triggered tomorrow...but, I can wait.

#91..You must have missed the post where he said he forgot it was there.

Yeah, but he intentionally put it there in the first place.

I agree. This SURRENDER means NO MONEY.

The senate is a chamber of fools, lead by a majority fool.

Precisely.

I am angry enough that I will *not* crawl over broken glass again for any McCain.

As to the laughing poster who asked "do you really think anyone will remember this in 2008?"

Damn straight! And we may very well lose. Period.

My take on this is that the 3 most conservative judges will be approved. + And the others will be brought up for a vote too.
The dems didn't have to filibuster tomorrow and I don't think they would have. They would have approved cloture on Owen and punted the filibuster down the road.

The DUmmies are looking into this thread. That is how sad they are about letting just THREE judges they disagree with solely because of ideology. Talk about sore losers.

You seem to assume that the Republicans will be in power forever. Tonight they maintained a rule that could be very important WHEN, not IF, the Democrats once again have the majority in the Senate.

The democrats will initiate this in a New York minute, after they regain the majority.

I hope the Republicans will realize that their base will not donate the money or time for foture campaigns if they continue to act shamefully.

Freepers should (as others have proposed here many times) donate our time and money directly to conservative candidates and groups instead of the party directly. This will effectively dilute support available to the RINO's, send a message, and should still keep the guys really fighting for us in D.C. in fighting trim.

OK, I'm over my initial near-stroke over this, and I agree with you. If we control the coin, we can get the right people in at the primary level. Not a penny, not a minute for a RINO.

Deep breath... I would like to see at least two senators given a drumhead court martial and dishonorable discharge over this fiasco, and - surprisingly - neither of them are Bill Frist. Not that he is Mr. Effective, but my guess is that he was sandbagged. No, there are two guys basking in the glow of this crock of crap, and they should be cut loose to join the other party posthaste, as they are a liability to whomever has them under the tent.

I think you are totally right, whatmore two very conservative women will now sit as judges one step down from the Supreme Court what will prevent the President from naming them to the Supreme Court? And how will they be filibustered?

I.e. undermine the RINOs who did this, driving the Senate further from a filibusterproof GOP majority. I bet every Rat from California to Maine is chuckling over the double bind this has created.
