Military releases Koran-abuse findings

An interrogator accidentally stepped on a prisoner's Koran, copies of Islam's holy text got wet when guards tossed water balloons into a cellblock and one was "splashed" by urine, according to the final results of a Pentagon probe. But the investigation sparked by accusations in the press about desecration of the Koran here found "no credible evidence" that prison guards or interrogators "ever flushed a Koran down a toilet," the U.S. Southern Command, which oversees the prison for terrorism suspects, said yesterday.

The findings show that al Qaeda and Taliban detainees at the detention center themselves mishandled Korans on 15 occasions, three times more than the military prison's guards and interrogators. "These included using a Koran as a pillow, ripping pages out of the Koran, attempting to flush a Koran down the toilet, and urinating on the Koran." The probe found five confirmed incidents of military guards and interrogators "mishandling" the Koran, a fact cited by military officials before but never described in detail. The incidents were:......

What is wrong with this country?

It's not the country

It's the media/press

I'm with you on that. The money that is spent investigating this type of BS should be being spent to protect the citizens of the United States, not protecting war criminals.

Simply stated, there was no Qoran abuse.

This is just more MSM non-intelligent reporting.

I am convinced MSM caters to the Muslims out of fear that their studios, buildings and reporters will be targeted.

Words just fail me

I know the feeling, I never thought I could be this angry or have this much hate toward anything as much as I do toward our MSM.  They are causing us irrepairable damage.  This is NOT an issue that carries even the smallest amount of relevance in this war.  Who cares.  All they are doing is encouraging the enemy to fight harder and banding them together against us.  Abu Graib?  Gitmo?  The Koran 'abuse'?  What the hell is going on here?

"What was it doing on the floor in the first place, if it is so "holy."

I don't believe in book burning but in this case I might change my mind.

I wish that were true .. at least they would have an excuse for this BS

But you saw that 6,000 word article in the NYT and the reaction from many in the media over that Newsweek article

They want us to lose this war .. Many in the media/press have declared war on our military, the Bush Administration .. and our country

It's the media/press

It's also our country, we should all march as one to their offices and shut them down ... they are inciting the enemy against us.  They leak sensitive material, work behind the lines with our enemies, make up stories to get the enemy's adrenaline rushing and do anything they can to help them.

Oh yes, indeed, it's all about painting Bush worse than LBJ.
Thankfully we have the Internet now.

" These people are terrorists .. they are in Gitmo because they did or tried to kill Americans and their own fellow Muslims"

Actually they are there because there's no viable evidence that they did that, that's the whole point of the place. And the hardcore AQ who have been captured have never been anywhere near Cuba since.

Makes you wonder if we are shooting the right people

Prez Bush said that we would deal with anyone who aids and protects these terrorists ... these people ARE doing this and need to be stopped!

Right!  That is EXACTLY what they are doing.  This is treasonous behavior.  Why is the mitary even answering these questions and giving them info?

"Spending time and money investigating whether something untoward may have happened to an assemblage of paper, ink and glue makes us just as nuts as the fanatics trying to kill us."

Thanks for verbalizing so well what I was thinking. Why is the Pentagon, of all places, spending precious time, energy and money trying to run down what an American guard allegedly did to a book of fiction in a terrorist prison camp? Why do they play ball with the media? It's all so twisted. It makes sense ONLY IF our government itself believes the koran to be 'sacred' and 'holy'. But either way, it amounts to a collossal insult to our troops who put themselves in harm's way to fight these devils of the koran.

If I was to guess ...they don't want a repeat of Vietnam

In vietnam .. we didn't lose the military part of the war

But we did lose the PR war .. thanks to some in the media and the anti war people

I believe that for every American flag burnt in a muslim country, that is televised, a Koran should be burnt and televised in this country. We do have the first amendment to the constitution that protects flag-burning- It must also protect Koran burning.
